My First Cycling Experience
"Life itself is like a bicycle, to keep your balance, you must keep moving", Albert Einstein.
Cycling is also called bicycling or biking, it involves the riding of a bicycle, motorcycle etc. It is important to add cycling to your daily routine, by riding to school, shop, office etc . Cycling is a sport and a recreational activity that is medicinal because it helps prevent diseases such as stroke, cardiovascular disease, depression, cancers, Obesity, arthritis etc.
My experience in cycling began as an adventure when I used to escort my cousin and his friends to a bike rental shop in Kwara state in 1995. They will ride the bike while I watch them from under the mango tree where I am seated quietly. At times they ride around but there is a time limit depending on the amount they paid.
They normally visit the rental shop because bikes are expensive in Nigeria, so many parents consider food before anything else.
I started developing interest as I escorted them to the place anytime they had money to rent a bike. I was timid so i never tried to ride.
But these days bicycles have changed and there have been new designs and modifications, unlike before when they looked really funny. but with the new design, it's now easier. I Love cycling. Zapata Espinoza once said, "Bicycles may change but cycling is timeless".
The Special Moment
I moved to Ghana in 1998, It was in Ghana I learnt how to ride a bicycle, I was always alone at home, so my Dad wanted me to be busy with something, so he asked me if I knew how to ride a bicycle and I nodded my head to reply that I knew how to ride a bike. That very day my dad sent the driver home with my first bike, it was a BMX bike, and the excitement gripped me.
Because I told a lie, I had to master the riding of the bike before my dad arrived in the evening. I started riding in our compound, I injured myself several times. I was using the sloppy part of the compound to train myself without pedalling the bike. I remember on one occasion, I was involved in an accident in our compound. I fell from the bike and as I was trying to get on my feet, the bike which was already in the air fell on me again. It was a really painful and tiring experience but before 5 p.m. I already mastered the basic riding skills but I sustained several bruises and wounds which I hid from everyone.
Today, I have become an expert in cycling. According to John F. Kennedy, a former American President," Nothing compares to the pleasure of a bike ride."
This was my experience when I started travelling to places with my bike, it was thrilling. I later got an absorber mountain climbing bike which has been very useful for me. Desmond Tutu said, "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring."

Thanks for sharing your story.
I love the Cycling quotes of thesehistoric figures. Are they all real quotes from them?
Thanks,
Yes, these quotes are all from these wonderful personalities.
“A bicycle ride around the world begins with a single pedal stroke” - Scott Stoll
Riding on a bicycle has been my take when I was still a child. Although, the normal bicycle we had then have totally changed.
Yes there has been, a lot of improvements unlike in the 90's
Wow, I wonder what it feels like riding on a mountain. It looks super dangerous. The times that you fly in the air makes me very anxious like something bad will happen. Just be careful.
So basically you taught yourself how to ride a bicycle then. That's crazy
Well done and thanks sharing
It's very crazy but it's worth it in the long run because I knew I was my teacher.
Nice story and great quote in the end! I !love it!
