Alex tried desperately to save her friend from experiencing a broken heart by deceiving him. “He’s not ready for a relationship,” she lied, making it up. Inside, guilt ate at him. However, he thought it must be done because his friend would not have been able to bear the pain. What he didn’t know was that one day justify the lie would come out and expose everything underneath as terrible flotsam. Similarly, honesty appeared to be his only way out at the time.
