LOH 221: My Jewel

Hi my people, today, I have come to share with you, tell you and show you my favourite person. Of course, I come from a large family of about thirty people. My father has more than a wife but my mother is the first wife. We are just five children from my mother and we all love one another that we support ourselves morally, financially and spiritually. Our home is so filled with so much love that one can rarely differentiate between us and our step brothers and sisters.

However, I have my favourite person and she remains our eldest daughter. Oh! She is a jewel. I am the last child of my mother while she is the first. Our bond is so strong that I do wonder how we became so close and fond of each other. She is in her 50s, and she's 22 years older than me. In fact, she had already started living independently and married in a far city before I was born. Miraculously, her first child was born three days ahead of me, meaning she was pregnant with her first child when our mother was also pregnant with me, which also means mother and daughter gave birth just three days apart. So, growing up, I didn't know my sister physically since I didn't grow up with her but I used hear them mentioned her name.

I didn't set my eyes on my sister till I was six years old and I could remember vividly how she carried me in her arms and pampered me with love. I'm of the same age with her daughter, so, she treats her daughter and me like we are twins. She used to buy us similar clothes, shoes and other things.

My sister sees me differently from the way other people see me. I used to think maybe it's because I am a child of our mother old age. I equally love and cherish her more than anything. I do call her my mom instead of referring to her as my sister while I call my own mother grandma, of course my mother is old enough to be my grandmother and she has many grandchildren that ring the word 'grandma' as I do.

My sister loves me so dearly that she went all the way to give be a befitting wedding ceremony a year ago, even when I said we should keep it low and save some cost. She singlehandedly source the fund and bear the bills. Even after the wedding, she has not for once discarded me. She stood by me and always calls me every moment to know how far I'm fairing. Sometime, last year I was ill and became so afraid but her words of encouragement soothes me. My sister prays for me so much as she prays for her own children. This manner of love is so rare to me. We didn't have much opportunity to live together while growing up but we are closer than all I grew with.

Just when I visited her for Christmas last month, my sister couldn't contain her joy. She was so happy that she introduced to almost everyone in the neighborhood, "Look at my mother's last child" She would say happily". At the end of my one week stay with her, I realized more than my one month salary from her loved ones who were also happy to see her mother's last daughter. Why wouldn't she be my favourite person. She's so kind and always gives me that sense of belonging. Even when I'm an old woman's daughter, she makes me enjoy the modern and exciting things my mates enjoy.

She used to encourage me regularly and provide for my needs even while I was with my mother in the village. She would pack and send a lot of city things including fashionable bags, lovely wrist watch, exercise notes, beautiful shoes and dictionary and I would become a champion among my mates in school. That woman really loves and tried for me. Indeed she's my super woman and favourite family member.
