This is a picture of the cityscape on the following day.

Setsubun is the day of seasonal separation in the Japanese calendar, the "end of winter" and "beginning of spring.
As a very important seasonal turning point, events are held here and there to drive away bad things and invite good things into the home.
A typical event is "mamemaki," in which roasted soybeans are thrown and loud shouts of "Oni (bad luck) ga soto" and "Fuku wa uchi" are made.

There is a large temple in my neighborhood, where a big event is held every year: the Mamemaki (bean-throwing ceremony).

In the old Japanese calendar, there was a time when "the coming of spring" was considered to be a very joyous occasion and "the coming of spring" was considered to be the New Year itself.
Spring is the season of budding life, so this is an auspicious event that brings good fortune along with the energy of life.
Many people look forward to it.

I have not attended this bean-throwing event, so I don't know the details, but from this poster visual introducing the event, it appears that several of the participants are dressed up as the "Seven Lucky Gods".

The "day after Setsubun" when I took this picture, the scaffolding on which the seven gods of good fortune were climbing was being dismantled.
It is a special scaffold decorated with festive red and white ornaments.

General participants can also climb up to the top of this scaffold by paying an admission fee.
From the top of this scaffold, one can throw roasted soybeans in a grand gesture (laugh).
Probably, those who are of the age when the year 2024 falls on a bad year would want to throw soybeans with all their might, so they participated in the event on this scaffold.

The scaffolding is as high as the second floor of the temple grounds, so it must be about 3 meters high.
The temple grounds are not that large.
So, with this scaffolding, it was already crowded.
I thought about how lively the event must have been yesterday.

When throwing beans, the call is always "Fuku wa uchi, Oni wa soto", which means "Fuku (good things) inside the house, Oni (bad things) outside the house".
This means "good things (blessings) go inside the house," and "bad things (demons) go outside the house.

However, in this temple's bean-throwing ritual, only "Fuku wa uchi" is said to be chanted.
Oni (ogres) bring bad things, but they are also a necessary test for human beings.
I want to be able to overcome trials.

これはその翌日の街の風景の写真です。

節分は日本の暦において「冬の終わり」「春の始まり」の季節の別れる日です。
とても重要な季節の変換点として、悪い物を追払い、良き物を家に招き入れる行事をあちこちで行います。
代表的な行事が「豆まき」で、煎った大豆を投げて「鬼（厄）は外」「福は内」と大きな声を出します。

私の自宅の近所には大きなお寺があり、毎年、大きなイベントとして豆まきが行われます。

昔の日本の暦では「春が来る」ということは大変喜ばしいことで「春が来ること」が新年そのものだと思われていた時代がありました。
春は命が芽生える季節なので、その命のエネルギーと共に福を呼ぶという縁起の良い行事です。
楽しみにしている人が多いです。

私はこの豆まきに参加していないので詳しく分かりませんが、イベント紹介のこのポスタービジュアルを見る限り、参加者のうち数人が「七福神」の仮装をしているようです。

私がこの写真を撮影した「節分の翌日」は、七福神が登っていた足場を解体中でした。
紅白のおめでたい飾り付けをした、特別な足場です。

一般の参加者でも、入場料を支払ってこの足場の上に上がることができます。
この足場の上から、盛大に煎り大豆を投げることができます（笑）
おそらく、2024年が厄年にあたる年齢の人は、思い切り豆まきをしたいでしょうから、この上で行事に参加していたのだと思います。

お寺の境内の2階部分と同じくらいの高さの足場なので、きっと高さは3メートルくらいあります。
このお寺の敷地はそれほど広くありません。
なので、この足場があると、もうぎゅうぎゅうでした。
昨日はきっと賑やかなイベントだっただろうな、と思いを馳せました。

豆まきをするときの掛け声は決まっていて「福は内、鬼は外」と言います。
「福（良きこと）は家の中へ」「鬼（悪いこと）は家の外へ」という意味です。

しかし、このお寺の豆まき神事では「福は内」とのみ唱えましょう、とされています。
鬼は悪い出来事を運んできますが、それもまた人間にとっては必要な試練である、ということなのでしょう。
試練に打ち勝てるようになりたいです。
私はなれるかな？

■ひとこと日記
東日本に大雪を降らせた強い低気圧は、かなり強い換気だったようですね。
私は久しぶりに「悪天候の影響で体調不良」をモロに受けました。
頭痛と眩暈と耳鳴りで、日曜日の夜、月曜日の一日中、寝込んでしまいました。
