Art and Creativity Journal: Show Setup Time!

So, this evening it was time to set up for this weekend's Holiday Market event.

As seems to be tradition for this particular show, it was a cold and rainy and windy night. Thankfully it wasn't pelting down rain quite as hard as it was last year when we got completely soaked to the bone just moving our show bins from the truck to the location where our booth was going to be.

I am grateful we have as much experience at doing this as we now do, which enabled me to have everything packed and ready to go and already packed in the truck by early afternoon when it was still daylight and it hadn't started raining heavily yet.

Because the event takes place at a high school, vendors for the holiday arts and craft show are not actually allowed into the building until 7:00 PM. Many of the 100 plus merchants who a part of the show don't actually set up until Saturday morning when they throw open the doors at 6:00 AM.

I'm grateful that we don't live very far away from the venue, meaning that it is viable for us to drive over to the high school, spend our two hours setting up, get home and have a reasonable night's sleep, and then arrive at a more leisurely pace tomorrow morning. Even so, we're not really morning people — which perhaps sounds a bit like a contradiction considering that we regularly go out and do shows that start in the morning!

Tomorrow morning the alarm will go off at 6:00am.

Setting up went relatively smoothly because we have used this particular configuration on a number of occasions before, and we already know where fixtures and tables and signage and so forth are going to go.

Getting electricity in what basically amounts to the dead center of the gym this little bit challenging because they recently installed a new roof and catwalk system and they can't just throw lines out from above like they did 5-6 years ago.

Consequently, we spend a fair amount of time taping down extension cords and such so we don't trip ourselves up.

Now that the heavy lifting is largely out of the way, and we are safely back home again, I just have a little bit of work to do with pricing some items that will be brought in and put on display tomorrow.

Now we just have to pray that the retail gods are with us this weekend and that the result is as good as — or better than — expected!

I appreciate you coming to visit and please do leave a comment if you feel so inclined!

Thank You!
