Art and Creativity Journal: The Joys (NOT!) of Vending at Public Events
One of the things about doing events out in public is of course that you are out in public.
Being out in public comes with its own sets of risks and potential setbacks including the one I'm currently facing which is that over the course of this past weekend I appear to have picked up some kind of head cold or flu.
It makes me remember and appreciate one of the primary reasons why it was that I was always hopeful that I could make do with just doing online sales.
Alas that has never come to pass.
So now I'm going to nurse my full head and my drippy nose for a few days and hopefully this is nothing more than a temporary head cold as opposed to something more heavy duty like the flu or RSV.
Having been self-employed for better than 20 years, I've come to realize that working from home means I get ill a lot less than I used to when I was out in the greater world more, particularly during the years when we had a brick and mortar art gallery where I was selling Alchemy Stones... among many other things.
I suppose the plus side is that I can look at myself and say that I must be in pretty good health because I'm not naturally inclined to get sick simply because I'm alive and breathing and walking around, but when I'm out in these public event places where there are loads of people — some of whom are little better than walking Petri dishes — I do tend to catch "things."
And that's one of the things I really don't like about events. Sometimes I even arrive home and can estimate precisely whom I interacted with who had a "sick vibe."
I guess what I find somewhat noteworthy — and even a little annoying — about the whole thing is that is seems like people learned absolutely nothing from the pandemic and associated periods of lockdown.
If you're feeling sick, stay home!
I mean, we knew that, already decades before Covid was a thing. And no, it's not an infringement on your "rights," it's just good manners!
I appreciate you coming to visit and please do leave a comment if you feel so inclined!
Thank You!

Because I am trying to make some semblance of income — a part time living, even — I now add this footer to all my posts, in the hope that someone, somewhere, might decide to take a further look at my work, and perhaps consider supporting independent art.
