Art and Creativity Journal: Time to Get to Work!
With less than a month to go to our first holiday season show, it is time for me to put my creative output into overdrive.
Although I have never been great at "forced creativity," sometimes it really does work to just sit down and start doing something... even if you're not feeling particularly creative.
In some ways, it's a bit ironic because I am far from the creative output I used to have "pre Covid."
I am only slowly getting towards the level I was working at in 2016-17 when I was putting serious effort into building Alchemy Stones.
New Art Supplies!
Good news is that I am now fully stocked on art supplies — that is to say paint — in all the colors I need, so I can follow up on the above promise to myself.
The way things look right now, I will likely have to make do with just picking stones to paint off our local beach... and that's going to have to be OK. After all, it's how I did this for the first 10 years of Alchemy Stones, so why not now?
Whereas I prefer working with the perfectly smooth stones from the Pacific Coast beaches, I can get what I need nearby... with a little effort.
The way I see it, I will have about 18 days to get the painting done to build my available work for sale... and that somehow has to dovetail with the greater picture of having all my web market sites current, and with the daily process of "making a living."
Of course, it doesn't all have to get done in time for our first show; the next two shows are not until the first weekend in December and beyond.
There is time!
Full Time Art: An Eternal DREAM?
There was a time when I was hopeful that I would follow in the footsteps of a couple of my rockpainting colleagues who have gone on to work on art full-time, but I increasingly get the sense that it's not going to happen.
Of course, the two people I am thinking about both had "breaks," in the sense of being interviewed for a major magazine, or bring hailed as "the next big thing" by an art world influencer.
That stuff does make a difference... the whole notion that we are somehow part of a meritocracy is pretty much smoke and mirrors!
And with that, I'd better get down to business!
I appreciate you coming to visit and please do leave a comment if you feel so inclined!

Because I am trying to make some semblance of income — a part time living, even — I now add this footer to all my posts, in the hope that someone, somewhere, might decide to take a further look at my work, and perhaps consider supporting independent art.
Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and support!
