More Show Preparations: Time For a Quick Trial Setup

Even though we have done many dozens of shows before, we always like to do a quick "trial setup" in the back yard before we go to an actual event.

It's not right pretty, but it gives us a general idea

This is especially true if we are changing our table and fixture configuration and we need to see how the booth works out as far as traffic flow, as well as our own movement. It's also a good way to double check that there are no tears or other problems with the tent canopy itself.

During today's setup, we did indeed discover that there was a corner that had a crack in it and that's really important since those hard plastic corners are what holds together the roof and the upright supports. Thankfully it was an easy fix using some duct tape, and a reminder that we need to always have duct tape on hand when we go to events!

The trial setup didn't really change anything much that we normally prepare for, but we got to see how's the new riser displays I built the other day are going to look, and we ended up deciding to take one less table than we had originally thought we would do, in favor of being able to have a place to sit at the back of the booth.

Standing on a hard concrete surface -namely the street or the concrete paving near the park downtown - for 8 to 10 hours a day is very hard on your legs so it is nice to be able to sit down! If you ever go to outdoor market events you might have noticed that many of the vendors do in fact sit down most of the time.

In other news, I made a makeshift display for our small Chakra Stones out of two bamboo cutlery drawer inserts coonected together with bolts, and that looks like it's going to work out pretty well, as well.

All in all, preparations are progressing on schedule. We're working pretty hard and it looks like we'll get everything done on time, but at the same time we are not having to be unpleasantly frenetic in order to get everything done. Famous last words I suppose... there's still a couple of days to go!

How do you pack the stones themselves for transport? If you have covered that aspect at all, I missed it. I would expect them to not tolerate just being chucked in a box to rattle around.

No, haven't covered that part, yet. The smaller ones go on egg cartons, the larger sizes in those flat plastic sweater boxes for under the bed, lined with towels.
