Next Event is Just a Few Days Away!

On Thursday, the next Alchemy Stones ”outside event” begins.

To be honest, I’m trying to come up with a little bit of enthusiasm for the occasion, but it has been a bit of a struggle. I’m just not feeling highly motivated for this ”Solstice Faire” event.

I think what’s playing into my seeming absence of creative motivation is tied to the realization that we go to these things and still make about the same amount of money as we always have… but the cost of doing so rises every year, and the cost of living rises every year, as well. So, in a ”net-net” sense, we’re actually going backwards.

Which brings up a ”delicate” topic I talked to a fellow artist about, some months back: I seems like we live in a day and age where artists and creatives are the last people on the planet who get to have a pay raise. Or even a ”cost of living adjustment,” for that matter.

And so, we return to the old general wisdom that ”everybody needs to eat.”

It might be a truism of sorts, but it sometimes feels like one of those that holds ”more true” for some people than for others!

I have a fairly good sense of what to expect from the upcoming show... and it will likely be "not much," but we keep telling ourselves that it is "good exposure."

I have not painted a whole lot since our most recent prior event, at the beginning of May.

I do know that I will need to add new stock in certain important categories — mostly meaning the very small stones — before we set out for a 5-day event in Oregon, in July. And that means we'll need to make at least a one day trip out to the coast to pick up rocks on the beach, and it means that I will need to bite the bullet and order paint... I am running quite low on several important colors.

It's odd... we allegedly live in somewhat of an "artist colony," yet we don't have a single art supplies store in our town!

So my hope and goal for this even is to make at least $500 in sales, which will be enough to pay our past due water bill ($350), the vendor fee for the weekend ($50) and still have $100 left over for gas for the beach trip and art supplies.

Stay tuned... we'll see how things actually end up turning out!

I appreciate you coming to visit and please do leave a comment if you feel so inclined!

Thank You!

Because I am trying to make some semblance of income — a part time living, even — I now add this footer to all my posts, in the hope that someone, somewhere, might decide to take a further look at my work, and perhaps consider supporting independent art.

Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and support!
