The 100-Day Project, Day 18 — Getting an Earlier Start Today!
Day 18 of the 100-Day Project is upon us!
If I were to give myself a grade at this point, I'd get an A- for the creativity part of the effort, and a C/C+ for the social media and marketing part of it.
Today's stone is a Heart Chakra stone.
Whether it's testament to the experiment starting to work — or something else — I have gotten a little bit of an earlier start today than I usually do. I actually prefer working during daylight and as the days grow longer that's going to become more and more feasible with Daylight Saving Time setting in this weekend.
So far, about 80% of the posts I have created since beginning this project were done late at night, usually right before I go to bed... after I'd finally gotten everything else that needed doing, done. Today I actually have a very rare relatively low load day, which allows me to sit down and start to do creative work at around 2:30 in the afternoon.
Once upon a time, there was an Ideal World in which I could do that regularly, but that Ideal World also involved my artwork generating about $1,000 a month in income, so I could justify the time. That part of the ideal world has never come to pass! Welcome to the USA, circa 2024!
A fairly small stone to start off. This is about 1 3/4" (4cm) across.
Day 18 Stone Painting:
Walking around outside yesterday, I started to notice that quite a few plants are starting to set out little green shoots. That made me think that I haven't actually worked that much with the color green since starting this endeavor.
One of the cool things about — and benefits of — this project is that I can look at my daily blog posts, study the thumbnail image and immediately see if there is a general trend in terms of the kinds of color schemes and designs I'm choosing.
Green is traditionally the color of the Heart Chakra, and most likely this will turn into a Chakra Stone, once I'm done with it.
Feeling a little bit better about life today, in general, as we are getting really close to having enough money on hand to pay our annual property taxes which are due on the final day of this month. It is always a stressful time of the year, but for once the crypto markets are actually helping rather than hindering.
Seems close to complete... but the final result is in the top photo.
I briefly contemplated starting on a second stone today, but realized that's precisely how I end up getting lots of painting done...at the expense of following up on social media updates.
Day 18 Summary and Social Media Bits:
One stone finished: It's a nice smaller stone; I might take on another large piece over the weekend.
Daily Twitter/X post: Check. Made a tweet about the inspiration found in nature. Followed a few new people. Posted a recently painted stone.
Daily Facebook Page post: Check. Another photo post of recent work.
Daily Instagram post: Check. Another recent stone photo post.
Other Stuff: As usual, this Hive post; put the initial touches on some page updates on my main web site; got my art supplies/paint order more or less finalized... just need the money, now. Daily shoutout to @gillianpearce!
Day 18 completed; a decent day, all told. Have a pretty nice group of recently painted stones built up now, need to make time for some finish work soon.
I appreciate you coming to visit and please do leave a comment if you feel so inclined!
Thank You!
If you enjoy painted rocks, do check out The Hive Rocks Project and help spread the word about Hive, while also being creative!
Because I am trying to make some semblance of income — a part time living, even — I now add this footer to all my posts, in the hope that someone, somewhere, might decide to take a further look at my work, and perhaps consider supporting independent art.
Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and support!

Well done for catching yourself before starting on a second stone and then carrying through with the social media.
I was intrigued by your scoring of the project and wondered what it would take for you to give yourself an A or A+ for the creativity part? For me I think it mostly comes down to the feeling.
I would rate myself a B for the creativity because I haven't had as much playful fun as I'd like and, at least to me, there hasn't been much variety.
As for the recording that would be an A. Simply becuase I've done a post every day and posted on Instagram.
