Greetings Draw A Day community,

Announcing a new contest for everyone to join and enjoy. For this challenge, we’re creating vintage-inspired Christmas postcards, Think of classic Christmas moments from any era starting with the Victorian era up to the 1970s. Whether it’s a snowy Victorian street, a 1950s holiday dinner, or a 1970s groovy Christmas tree, we want to see it all.

You’ll be working with a limited palette of muted evergreen, cranberry red, cream, and sepia brown. Let’s see how you bring the past to life with just these colors

The Mechanics:

  1. Design a Christmas postcard that feels like it’s straight out of another era. You can choose anything vintage up to the 1970s. Think horse-drawn sleighs, retro ornaments, classic toys, old-fashioned holiday markets, or even a groovy holiday disco.

  2. Stick to this palette:
    Muted evergreen (#3B5D42)
    Cranberry red (#8E3535)
    Cream (#F3E0C7)
    Sepia brown (#6F4E37)

You can add small accents in black or white if needed, but keep the main focus on these four colors.

  3. Submission rules:
Post your entry in the group using #NostalgicNoelChallenge.
Include a caption with your era and postcard concept. For example: “1950s Christmas Eve dinner—complete with vintage china and a table centerpiece of poinsettias”
Deadline to submit: December 9, 2024
    One entry per artist

Judging Criteria

I will judge and be looking at these four things when picking the winners:

  1. Sticking to the Palette (30%): Did you make the most of those four colors?
  2. Era Accuracy and Creativity (30%): Does your postcard transport us to the time you chose?
  3. Skill and Presentation (30%): How polished and eye-catching is the design?
  4. Nostalgic Vibe (10%): Does it feel like a treasured Christmas memory?

Prizes

The total prize pool is 8 HIVE, distributed as follows:

1st Place: 4 HIVE
2nd Place: 2.5 HIVE
3rd Place: 1.5 HIVE
Winners will be announced after judging, and prizes will be sent directly to the winners’ HIVE wallets.

What are you waiting for? Start brainstorming your era. Will it be Victorian carolers under gaslight? A 1930s department store Santa? A 1970s Christmas tree with tinsel and bell-bottoms? You pick.

If you want to share your process, post your work-in-progress (WIP) using #NostalgicNoelWIP to keep the group inspired.

Let’s celebrate the holidays by looking back the pages of history—can’t wait to see what you create.
