LOH 183 | Month-End Rush, A Grumpy Cat, and Funny Names

Hello! Hello, beautiful ladies! It's been forever since I last joined a community contest here. When I saw the questions posted the other day, I wished I would have some free time to spare to write something... The questions for this week are simple yet fun, so here I am, finally.

I was supposed to write an entry yesterday, but life happened and yes, the photo I last took is no longer the last today. LOL.

Month-End Rush

Taken this early evening while I was on queue for petrol.

Yep, this was the last photo I took today. I was not supposed to be outside, but as I was checking the online newspaper this morning, I saw that they already posted the petrol rates for the month of May. It will be considerably higher than this month:

Super 98 petrol will cost 3.34 a litre, compared to Dh3.15 a litre in April, while Special 95 will cost 3.22 a litre, compared to Dh3.03 a litre the previous month.

I usually do not take these prices into consideration. But since I normally refill at the beginning of the month, I found it prudent to do it today instead of tomorrow.

And my, oh my! I guess the rest of the city had the same thought as I did! The photo above was taken from the 4th petrol station I attempted to go to. The first two, I did not bother entering since I already saw the long queue, while on the third one, I was already waiting when the gas attendant went to me to inform that "they have system issues, and do not have Special." He literally asked me to go to another station. LOL.

I ended up in one of the biggest nearby me, with 3 pumps in one row, with 5 rows. And still, the queue was long! I paid Dhs 115 for my full tank (around 38 liters), equivalent to ~ $31.25.

Before the last photo, the Little Man asked me to take photos of this shiny stone because it looked cool, and the rest are videos of our noisy Fluffy, who is currently in heat, poor girl.

She decided it was a good idea to lay down on Little Man's homeschool work.

2️⃣ What’s the funniest actual name you’ve heard of someone having?

I know I've come across quite a few since I used to deal with a lot of names over my many years at work. However, nothing really comes on top of mind today.

What I can share though, are actual nicknames of people I personally know. For some reason, people in my village give nicknames that don't actually make them sound nicer or shorter, or convenient to say.

Most of the nicknames were derived from how they look, their frustrations from bad experiences, embarassing moments, etc. And guess what, even how ugly, the person himself would eventually respond to these nicknames already.

Example, I had a playmate, his name is Marlon, but he got a nickname Uod (worm) because when he was a toddler, he would lay down on the ground like a worm when throwing tantrums. lol.

How about getting a nickname based on how you look like? Well, back in the day, we were barely unmoved by being "politically correct" or whatever. I have three cousins who were called Lusog (for healthy) because they were thin. LOL. The kind of thin wherein their ribcage showed no matter. Since there were three of them, they were - Lusog 1, Lusog 2, and Lusog 3. Hahaha.

Back in the day, there weren't a lot of professionals in our village. So what if, one gets awarded a professional title by peers by merit of "congeniality"?

Well, my dad was and is still known as Engineer even if he isn't one. Lol. He is also known as Landong Kawit (Lando with Hook) because of his forefinger that is now hooked due to stitches when it almost got cut off when he was young.

I also have a cousin who is nicknamed Piskal (Fiscal), Whoooh! What can you say about that. That's quite a big title. LOL.

I really wish I can remember some real names right at this moment, but I can't so I hope those nicknames would do.
