ASEAN Hiver Of The Week π¨βπ» @chaingmai.hhh π½ Hiver, Hasher, & High On Life πββοΈ
Welcome to the ASEAN Hive Community's "ASEAN Hiver Of The Week" post, where I (@justinparke) highlight one of our community members.

Β Β Β This week's featured Hiver is a longstanding member and pillar of our community. He is a foreigner living abroad in Thailand, Chiang Mai to be exact, where he is part of a local comradery-fitness-drinking group known as the Chiang Mai Happy Hash House Harriers.
Β Β Β If you oon't know what hashing is, don't worry, I didn't either until this guy introduced me to it. It is very close to trail running, but not necessarily competitive, and jogging seems to be much more common than running, and always with cold beer at the end of every adventure.
Β Β Β Now that Thailand has legalized cannabis, I guess these hashers can smoke some hash to relieve any aches and pains that result from this extreme activity. Women are allowed to hash too, and even organize their own separate hashes on occasion. There are hash groups all around the world, so perhaps you'll run into a chapter some day when you least expect it.
Β Β Β I can't thank this guy enough for believing in the potential of the ASEAN Hive Community right from the early days of this community. His content, sense of humor, delegation, and engagement all bring much value to the friendliest community on Hive. Let's all give this gentleman a pat on the back for being a vital member, and let's wish his knees many more years of hashing.

I went running with these guys a couple of times and it really is as awesome as he describes. Unfortunately their meetup times conflict with my work schedule so I am rarely able to attend.
I would love to imagine something like this could work in Cambodia, but landmines and all, so probably not. There may be one in Phnom Penh, and surely there are some safe nature type areas outside the capital, but I wouldn't want to even take one accidental step off-trail near my home.
is it really that bad? I've never been there but have heard stories. It's been a really long time and they still haven't cleaned all that up?
There is still plenty of work to do, but because there are sponsors, contracts, NGOs and governments involved, I think everyone is dragging their heels to ensure job security. When the mines are gone the suits behind the NGOs will have to figure out a whole new plan to get contracts and sponsor money.
I would assume by now most of the mines have rotted or rusted through, but because of international law and other things, they will always have to be treated as though they could be active. It could only take one perfectly preserved mine to detonate and open a can of legal worms.
are you a bit afraid to walk around in the jungle near your house?
Congratulations @chaingmai.hhh, I hope to see more beautiful and valuable content from him.
Well-earned, he's been an ASEAN Hive pillar since the early days.
Congratulations @chaingmai.hhh.
Such an awesome Hiver to have in our community.
