Fish Basil Wrapped with Banana Leaves
You must know that I am do many things to be healthier cause I have been suffering from diabetes for the past 2 years. It's very painful when you know that you are sick and have to fight for the rest of your life. Diabetes will always be in my body, however, there are many ways to keep diabetes well controlled.
I often share stories on my social media, especially about diabetes. I have said many times that it is enough to control stress, eat well, add lots of vegetables and fiber, and get enough exercise to build muscle so that everything can be controlled. However, the most important thing is how I can eat well enough protein and fiber without having to add refined sugar and consume excess sugar.
It's quite simple, but not all diabetes sufferers want to do it. The very difficult thing is changing a lifestyle that has been running for years, especially if you are very addicted to foods high in carbohydrates. Sugar, it is the most addictive thing of all.
The way to eat food so that I am full enough and lasts a long time is to eat foods high in protein, which I always get enough of by eating lots of chicken breast and meat. But, I always forget that I need omega 3 from sea fish. In fact, I always forget it, maybe because I'm very confused about serving fish food. Fish is always fried, it is the most delicious way to eat fish.
I forgot, that there is a way to serve delicious food whose main ingredient is fish. We call it 'pepes', which is a way of serving fish without frying it, wrapped in banana leaves and filled with various spices that are very spicy and have a distinctive aroma. You must know that banana leaves are very aromatic.
This recipe is really simple, because it only uses spices that have been purchased at traditional markets. There are many things I want to discuss, not just about how to make it easily, but how traditional markets make life very easy for Indonesian people to cook at home.
So, at traditional markets, I can buy lots of food ingredients easily and cheaply. Here, I buy sardines that have been cleaned inside, the stomach and gills have been cleaned. I get clean and fresh sardines. The Indonesian sea is very wide, so getting fresh fish is easy.
Likewise with spices, like pepes seasoning this time. I bought the spices at a fairly cheap price, just a few cents. This is enough to make 1 kilogram of fish paste. Mixed with grated coconut and added with basil leaves that I got from my husband's hydroponic garden.
We have several boxes of basil leaves that are grown hydroponic. There are already a lot of them and will be harvested this week, however, the weather is really hot, so they have to be harvested in the morning and sold at the market in the morning. However, we don't want to sell it yet and want to see this basil on the balcony at home.
After getting enough basil leaves, I added them to the fish which had been covered with spices and also grated coconut. It will be very fragrant and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
Of course, I use banana leaves which can be cleaned by wiping them with a fairly damp cloth. Then, everything is wrapped and arranged in the oven very neatly.
After waiting 30 minutes, everything is finished and can be enjoyed. Without having to cook vegetables, I get fiber from basil and grated coconut. This high protein and high fiber food is most suitable if you are bored with the usual menu.
In my opinion, making fish pepes is very simple, however, it is very difficult to get banana leaves anywhere. In fact, banana leaves are very easy to make dishes that are extraordinarily delicious because of their aroma.
See you the next time hive friends!
