Mobile phones in schools: control, challenges and possibilities .
Hello everyone,
Hope everyone is well. I am also doing well. This is my second post in this community. This week's selected content topic is very relevant and very important for the current times.
What I am writing today is completely from my personal experience and current context. I first started using a mobile phone in class 8, when I had a Nokia 1100. The time was 2007-2008. Back then, not everyone in school had a phone. My phone was only for communication, because my school was about two hours away from my home. The use of that phone was very limited—it was used to let me know if I had reached school properly.
But the current times are completely different. But there is a slight similarity in one place, that is, still in schools, parents give mobile phones to children so that they can call their parents at important times or in case of any danger. But with the change of time, mobile phones have become modern. Now, apart from making calls, mobile phones can be used for many other things. Which is not necessary for people of all ages, but because of free access, children of all ages can access all websites. Due to which our current time is moving towards such degradation.
However, this excessive use of mobile is not only wasting time, but it is also affecting the physical and mental health of children. Spending too much time in front of the screen is damaging their eyes, reducing their interest in studies and creating a kind of loneliness or mental stress.
Again, it would be wrong to only talk about the bad side. The AI facilities of mobile have been a blessing in many ways. It has made it easier to access information. But the problem is, there is no specific policy for using this technology. Students can search for anything, without checking the pros and cons. Again, they are getting their schoolwork done with AI.
In my opinion, teaching the correct use of mobile and AI in our education system is very important. Students should be taught how to use mobile only for necessary tasks. For example, a system can be introduced in schools and colleges where students get free WiFi, but it can only be used for educational websites, downloading files, or checking mail. This network access cannot be given to Facebook or gaming platforms.
However, the initiative of the school or college authorities is not enough. Parents also need to be active in this regard. Because they are the ones who have handed it over to their children and they are the ones who can control it the most. They need to be taught how to use technology correctly. In addition, children should be encouraged to engage in alternative entertainment or physical activities.
Although mobile phones are now a necessity, it is our responsibility to ensure that it does not have a negative impact on our lives. Even though mobile phones are banned in schools, many students use them secretly. Therefore, banning them is not the solution. Awareness needs to be raised.
Therefore, a new subject should be included in our education system, which will be "Ethics of Technology Use". In this, students will learn how the proper use of technology can make their lives easier and how misuse can harm them. To make a generation healthy, aware and successful, it is necessary to teach them both the good and bad sides of technology. Technology is our tool, but we must try not to let it become our enemy.
Everything that is written now is my own opinion. Your opinion may differ or you may not like my opinion. You can share your opinions. Then I will also know something. And let me know how you liked this article of mine or what else you can add to make the post better. Thank you.
