LOH #167: Skills and Passion Intertwined
Throughout the previous year, I have learned so much things that made me ready to face the challenges this year, especially in my academics. Those were the things that I acquired from the first semester. It's mainly common but very beneficial to us (students) who mostly dwells in different kind of studies the entire year.
After reading the second question give by @marivic10, which is,
"Share with us what skills do you have and want to put in practice this new year. Maybe you a venture in mind?"
A lot came into my mind, and I'm glad to share it here in the Ladies of Hive Community. Anyway, here's what I can offer to put into practice this year...
Time Management
This is the skill that I often fail but somehow improved on it when my on the job training have started. Before, I love doing anything on my own pace that's why I'm more fond of freelancing than looking for a part time job in the local companies around my place while I'm studying. Right now, I have to put this skill in use again more meticulously this time. Although my trainings will be coming to its near end, I still have to manage my time well since there will more upcoming activities that I want to experience this year.
If previously I can still let my mood ruin my plans for the day, presently, my time management will be imposed more on my daily activities. It's a struggle indeed to balance the working, student, and personal life all at once, that's why this skill must be put in use. It might be a soft skill but it always come in handy for me as I juggle through my activities and rest everyday.
Leadership
Actually, this is one of the things that I often to avoid in the past as I don't like and interacting with a lot people as well as committing to a much bigger responsibility, yet here I am, trying my best to lead my fellow students into a brighter future, opening their minds to other opportunities, and guiding them to become a professional in their fields. I truly never had expected myself to do such things. When I enrolled myself to college, my only intention was to focus on my academics and have a degree but along the way, my passion of helping people overpowered that will and has become the Iron Will of my entire being.
It all started when I was duly appointed by our school organization to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors as I am their Instructor as well. Being the second in command for big organization is like battling in war in every meetings. I must admit that I'm still inexperienced in the field of leadership and all I have is the mission that comes from my purest intentions wherein I'm deeply rooting for them to learn and be inspired by it. I can be like a nagging strict mother at times, but it only means that I really care so much for their welfare and I don't them to fail and be a joke to other organizations in our community college.
This year, I'm still at it. I even volunteer to be the Vice President of our section if the current elected officer back out. Moreover, I turned down the appointment of being the Chairman of the Risk Reduction Management of our department because I think I can't manage all my responsibilities if I commit to more positions, and as I've said earlier, I don't have much experience in leading, so it's one of my insecurities as well. For the time being and onwards, I'm more confident to try things out and more ready to conquer my fears starting at the beginning of this year 2024.
Educating
I've long abandoned this skill and has forgotten that I know how to do this if I only put my mind into it. It was pulled out on the most bottom part of the shelves and was presented lots of times since the start of the previous year. The year of 2023 was quite exhausting but adventurous, meaningful, and remarkable at the same. I got to experience them all at once within a year, it's life-changing actually. The skills that I have acquired were skills that are beneficial in surviving in this challenging world and one of those is educating.
As what @jiboyskie123 have said in one of his blogs recently, "Teaching is the mother of all profession," and he is quite right. May it be an influence of my upbringing or from the inspirations I have got from my previous teachers, it really has etched in my heart to put my inspirations into practice and educate students who have the same hunger for learning just like me. On my first lectures as an Assistant Instructor for emergency first aid, I was tensed and nervous as well just like everybody else. I was even hesitant to speak and wanting to cancel my commitments on the last minute. But then, I faced my fears in speaking in public and had overcome it somehow before I knew it. That one session leads to another and until the time that I'm excited every time I'm invited to give a lecture on different schools and universities. I may not still that good in delivering the topics well but I'm sure the students have learned something before I left and enjoyed the session with me.
For the year 2024, we have planned to collaborate again with other schools and universities. This time for sure I'll be leading the team again together with our Adviser to impart our knowledge for those who needs such. I'll be bracing myself once again for a year of full of new ventures and worthwhile experiences.
Web Design
This might be the only skill which I have learned that is related to my course. If ever I continue teaching in the future, this is one of the topics that I want to teach my students. I want them to learn how to do it and I'll make sure that they can understand it all before the end of the semester unlike what happened to us in the previous class years.
Web Design is a headache for my fellow students and to me as well but I enjoyed it more if I can run an output that I want to see on the web page. This skill might be basic to other developers here, it was a big milestone to me on the other hand. I find it potentially marketable in the future, that's why i want this to put into practice to enhance my skills here more. A good new suddenly came to me this afternoon, as there was an opening for participants in the upcoming Department Week celebration at school. There is an opening for Web Designing, and I instantly fill the slot even though I couldn't remember the procedures. That's what could happen if your skills are not used often, you get dulled and rusty. As to regain the peak of it, here I am risking my luck in a contest.
And, that's it, ladies! There are other soft and profitable skills I have that I wanted to share to you but those mentioned above are the ones that I will be using mostly this year. It's the end of my blog and I'm thankful for those reads this until the end. I'm also looking forward for your entries. By the wy, have a good day!
