LOH Contest #159: The Fiery Passion Instilled, and Imparted.

"If you don't love what you do, you won't do it with much conviction or passion."
— Mia Hamm

I vaguely remember how it started. Yet, clearly, I remembered my struggles well during my training. Saving people's lives can't be taken lightly indeed. While taking measures in pursuit of the heroic goal, as a rescuer, you're also risking your life in the process. Being an Emergency Rescue Technician is never an easy job, it's not just to scoop the patient on the scene and transport it to the nearest health care facility.

At first, I never understand why there are people who put their other feet on the ground to help other people voluntarily. Patriotic indeed, and they can be considered to be a hero, but all for the popularity concept I had in mind disapeared when I'm the one faced on emergencies myself. It changed my perspectives and was widened by the circumstances.

The feeling of eagerness to help your fellow students when witnessing how they almost collapsed in front of you because of heat exhaustion, headaches, fevers, hyperventilation and asthma, but you're helpless because you don't have the expertise in the medical field. I'm sure that was where it all started, but I can't remember the date and how exactly it happened. The anxiousness, guilt, and dismayed I had back then still etched in my heart that it became as my motivation to learn more about immediate treatments. I was greatly disappointed with my self to just stand there doing nothing as they pleaded for my help.

It was one of the reasons why I'm more inclined to upskill from being a First Responder to currently an Emergency Rescue Technician in the Navy Reservist Squadron now of my country. I'm an enthusiast in the field, that I've had came out of my comfort zone already before I knew it. Before, I was just a normal college student which only aims to pass all my subjects in every semester, the one that was silent and prioritizes her academics over any other extra-curricular activities. Yet now, you'll never silence the passion engraved in my identity for I'm not only a rescuer but I'm also empowering young generations to be equipped with life skills they can apply for emergency situations and influence them with the same fire of passion we have for humanity.

It is quite remarkable how did certain circumstances could lit a fire in our hearts and create a kind of passion that we never expected our self could ever done in our lifetime. A truly phenomenal event that changed my life forever and made me feel incomplete actually when trying go back being a normal student or citizen. The will to help the people in need and to educate more people stays the same, that it haunts my soul if neglected.

"Empowering people, saving lives."

From my blog, A Service to the Gems Who Keeps on Shining Brighter

It is the mission I've created when we established an organization, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management - Rescue Emergency Act Controlled Team in our community college campuses. It is my pleasure to be one of their Instructors since the training of the pioneers and now we have the Batch 02, consisting 34 students carrying the same fiery passion I have.

The goal is to empower people and to save lives, whereas empowering indirectly implies the same goal as to save a life. When you impart knowledge to people and it served its purpose, it's still bears the same results as you've done it yourself. Not all the time, we are available to to respond in emergencies. However, if we have educated more people on what to do during these situations, the risk will be mitigated. I don't always have to act first to the scene, it's meant for the ones who has the proper knowledge to respond on the scene.

This entry is in response to the community contest this week initiated by @saffisara, specifically answering question #1:

What in life are you most passionate about?

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
