Brazil is an important market for X, which has suffered a loss of advertisers since Musk bought the former Twitter company.

A Brazilian Supreme Court judge, Alexander de Moraes, on Friday ordered the suspension of billionaire Elon Musk's X platform after he refused to appoint a legal representative in the country, according to the copy of the court's decision.

This escalates over months of disagreement between the two men for the freedom of expression, far-right calculations and disinformation.

Judge Alexander de Moraes on Wednesday warned Musk that X could be banned in Brazil if he failed to comply with his order to appoint a representative, set a 24-hour deadline and said the platform would remain banned until it complied with the decision.

For its part Company X said...

"The platform is expected to be shut down by de Moraes, simply because we will not comply with his illegal orders to monitor his political opponents.

When we tried to defend ourselves in court, Judge de Moraes threatened our Brazilian legal representative with imprisonment even after she resigned, all her bank accounts were frozen, our challenges against his obvious illegal actions were rejected or ignored, and Judge de Moraes' colleagues on the Supreme Court were either unwilling or unable to stand up to him."

The platform's crisis with de Moraes began over its reluctance to comply with user ban orders.

Accounts previously shut down by the platform include lawmakers affiliated with former President Jair Bolsonaro's party and activists accused of undermining democracy.

Elon Musk criticized the Supreme Court judge's decision, saying via X: "Freedom of expression is the foundation of democracy and the non elected judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes. The repressive regime is so afraid that people will know the truth that it will bankrupt anyone who tries."

In my opinion, the real motives behind all this facade are yet to come before us.
