I am a woman and from where I hail from, women are becoming more and more successful by the day.

Despite the harsh economy and difficulty in affording three square meals, women are not tired out.

No wonder God thought about us as the powerful force that can keep the earth spinning.

Women are also quite creative especially when it comes to entrepreneurship aka business platforms. It is only a woman that has the ability to multi- task in business.

In my neighborhood,you could see a woman's stall filled with various wares ranging from dry food stuffs like raw rice, beans, maize and cassava flakes be(garri), to perishable food items like fresh tomatoes and pepper. In that same stall, you would see soft drinks, footwear, hair products and the common one, satchet water.

In my humble opinion, no one can compare to a woman when she decides to take the bosses seat.

If I was given $5,000,what would I invest the money in?

This questions is quite an emotional one because availability of money seems to be the opposition to the many great ideas that I have conceived but are yet to be birthed till this day.

Five thousand dollars is approximately four million, five hundred thousand naira by exchange rate in my country and with this kind of money ready at hand, my oh my, I could go into a large scale business venture that would set me up for good.

In venturing into any business, one important factor that should be considered is capital. If you start a business with a meagre capital, be ready to reap a meagre profits as well. For a business to thrive, it needs a lot of capital as in a lot of money.

With five thousand dollars, I would venture into animal husbandry. Specifically, poultry and snail farming (heliculture).

Firstly, I would purchase a good plot of land in a good area which would cost about two million naira. Then I would go about setting up a large scale poultry and snail farm on the land.

Of course I wouldn't do this alone. I would seek expertise help and hired hands from labour with expertise cos I know doing large scale poultry and snail farming is no small feat.

I could also chip in cattle rearing but that would come at a later time when the poultry and snail farming are fully operational and yielding profits.

Benefits of poultry farming.

I chose this business venture because of it's enormous benefits, which I would be sharing below....

• Poultry is a good source of protein. As such poultry products are in high demand. Things like poultry meat (chicken) and eggs are everyday family demands. I can meet these demands via my business and earn as well.

• Poultry farming requires minimal maintenance. You just have to make sure the coop is clean, change their dinking water and ensure to feed them with a healthy diet. Then making sure that the coop is warm enough during cold periods.

• Poultry farming requires minimal marketing and advertising strategies for visibility. You can use word of mouth and have a good contact list. These contacts will do the trick of telling others about your enterprise.

Although if you want to go all out and do something large, feel free. The choice is yours.

• Job creation and improving living conditions. With this business being a large scale one, many hired hands will be employed, leading to a reduction in the unemployment sphere. Also the workers would be entitled to certain privileges that comes with working on a poultry farm. They can also get poultry products at discounted prices.

• Poultry business is a very lucrative one that is sure to yield good profits in the long run.

Benefits of snail farming.

• If you have not eaten snail meat before, then I feel you are missing out on something delicious. Snail meat is so so delicious that one can get addicted to eating it daily. I prefer snail meat to beef any day,any time.

So with my business I would be meeting the demands for snail meat in the market. This of course means more sales and profits.

• Snails require low operational cost and maintenance.

• Snails are highly productive creatures. One snail can lay about 100 eggs (snails are hermaphrodites) per breeding season and their breeding season occurs about 7 times a year. I believe you can do the math to know the outcome with a thousand snails on your farm.

• Snail farming also requires little marketing strategies.

• Snails hardly fall sick, so there is no fear of your snails dying. The only thing that I am aware of is aestivation. So ensure to keep them hydrated.

• Snails are eco-friendly creatures. They are not noisy, their poop does not smell so foul and virtually every part of a snail is useful. Snail slime is used in cosmetics, the shell is used to make scouring powder for pots and pans and the meat goes into my stomach, yummy.

• Snail farming has a high market potential that can go as far as bringing in foreign revenue. Some countries love to eat snail but their weather is not snail friendly. I could export processed snails to those countries, meeting demands and earning in foreign currency. It's a win-win

The list is endless and my creative mind can do a lot, once the investment is established. I geniunely like the fact that I can help reduce unemployment, meet protein demands of numerous families and make good profit.

This is a judicious use of five thousand dollars in becoming an entrepreneur.
