Forgotten... Finish the tale #12.
I woke in the world where no one remembered me. Sharon was in pain as she stared at her parent’s photograph. Her tears flowed freely as she caressed her mum's face on the photo lovingly. “I miss you mum and dad” she whispered but that only drew more years. The feeling of loneliness was eating deep into her and she was almost becoming a shadow of herself.
It all started with an accident. Sharon and her parents were on their way back from visiting the museum with her and they were all chatting happily until a careless drunk driver ran into their car, leading to the death of her parents. She suffered injuries and after some weeks of treatment, she was discharged to her only guardian who happened to be Aunt Margaret.
Living with aunt Margaret was hell on Earth. She was literally turned into a maid for her aunt's family. She slept on the cold floor with only a wrapper as her protection while her aunt's children slept in warm beds. In her aunt's words “You have to earn your keep while you stay here with me. Your late parents didn't leave any money for your upkeep”.
Every day, she worked and worked. At first Sharon wanted to please her aunt but when her two cousins snubbed and ridiculed her, she knew her place in their hearts. They never cared for her. The only people who cared for her were long gone.
Everyday, her heart ached with a longing to reunite with her parents but that wish never came to pass. She felt that she was better off on the streets all alone rather than being with her aunt's family and being disdained.
It wasn't her fault but no one cared. Though she lived with a family of four, the loneliness was real as the clothes she wore. Each night, she slept wishing to be reunited with her parents but each waking morning, she was always alone. It was like no one knew her. Like no one cared about her existence. Almost like she was forgotten. Her once cheery self was slowly becoming dull and her free spirit was gradually retreating into the darkness. Her cherished memories were gradually drifting away like the wind and when she looked in the mirror, she couldn't help but smile bitterly for she knew that she was.....forgotten.

What a pathetic story. I feel for Sharon because she will never be herself again. Nicely written. Well done.
