Hello hivenaijans, welcome to a new week. I am glad to be here again. This is my response to the weekly prompt that states

"If you could do anything for work, what's the Silliest job you would do?"

This prompt got me cracking up because when you reside in a country where there are limited job opportunities leading the average man to adapt to anything available then such a phenomenon is inevitable. For instance, a graduate of Agricultural Science working as a cashier in a bank, are you counting or saving seeds?

Work is something you do either as a vocation or to get paid. In fact, the Oxford dictionary defines work as any activity directed towards making or doing something and for which one might be paid. Work is also used synonymously with Job.

If I could do anything for work, what's the Silliest job I would do?

Two jobs came to my mind of which I consider very silly for me to do. The first one was working as a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority popular referred to as LAST MA official in Nigeria, while the second job was working as a professional mourner, hehehe.

To be pragmatic,we do have some serious minded LASTMA officials who are ready to play by the book and not cut corners or slack off when on duty. So it might no be so silly after all.

This leaves me with my second option, working as a professional mourner at funerals to be the Silliest job I would undertake.

Imagine filling out my resu`me and under the work history section you would see something like

"Professional mourner_ 2018 till date "😁😁. Oh my goodness,Lmao

Or imagine I call one of my friends to assist me in getting a job and I am like;

"Hello kate how are you doing?"
"I'm fine and you?",she replies
Babe, I need a job can you help me? I ask.
Ok no problem, but what are you good at and what is your qualifications...? she asks in return
I am a professional mourner at funerals, I reply
What!! 🙄🙄, You're kidding right? She asks.....ok what does a professional mourner do?
" I go to funeral ceremonies and weep for the family of the deceased" I reply
.
If you were my friend,I bet you would not take me seriously.

It's a silly job for me because it entails hunting for burial ceremonies, going there to weep and wail insincerely, even more than the family members of the deceased. Then once the burial is concluded, food and drinks are requested and when the dining and wining is over, You get paid. For some the food and drinks are the only payments.

Are you surprised?, well don't be. I have heard of this kind of Job from several cultures in my country. I heard of a man (let me call him Mr Ani,for this post) who would travel from town to town for different burial ceremonies with lots of onions in his bag with which he uses to rub his eyes to force out tears,so he would be able to wail and weep and seem so genuine.

Some go as far as far throwing themselves on the floor and even wanting to enter the prepared six foot deep burial hole and few minutes later you would see them with two large bottles of Guinness extra stout (0opularly called odeku), twelve wraps of foo-foo with a big bowl of egusi soup (melon seed soup) filled with assorted meat and fish, hmm, now I guess you see what I mean, right?

In as much as I respect the diverse cultural heritage of my country, becoming a professional mourner is the very least job I would undertake for money. I do not really like attending burial ceremonies as it is a solemn reminder that this journey called life on this Earth, has an end. Hence, it's a time of sober reflection on how we who are alive can do better with the limited time we have and not a time for insincere tears for money.

By the way, if I were ever to take up such a Job, I doubt I would excel at it because I can only cry so much. If I cry for too long, my eyes would get all swollen and red, then I would look like the walking dead.

"An adage says that whatever is worth doing is worth doing well or not done at all"

That's why working as a
professional mourner will be the Silliest job I would do.

I hope you enjoy reading as much as I did writing. This is purely my opinion. I come in peace

Thanks for stopping by 🤗......Shalom

Ahhh what is this? 😂
I would never have thought such a job could exist, really silly.

Like you, I can't cry for long no matter how sad I am. So I guess I won't do well in such a job 😅

Nice one, had a good laugh. Thanks for participating 💯

@mrenglish , you got the gist oooo. Anything is possible in Nigeria. I even learnt, there are people who are professional odour smellers. Their job is to smell customer's armpits and interprete the type of smell perceived from the armpits of customers at a perfume shop,😂😂😂. Thanks for stopping by.
