Me complace estar presente aquí en la comunidad, en esta oportunidad para presentar mi participación a: ¡El desafío de fin de año de NeedleWorkMonday! - Una reflexión de 2023. Me he animado mucho al respecto, me parece una oportunidad ideal para expresar algunos de mis pensamientos.

I am pleased to be present here in the community, on this opportunity to submit my entry to: The NeedleWorkMonday End of Year Challenge! - A reflection of 2023. I have been very encouraged by this, it seems like an ideal opportunity to express some of my thoughts.

Este año ha sido para mi un camino de aprendizaje absoluto. En mis años de vida anteriores había pasado por desapercibida la costura a pesar de que hace un par de años atrás había adquirido una máquina de coser. A mis 60 años de edad, que es la edad con la que cuento actualmente, he decido expandir áreas de mi vida que van más allá de lo que habitualmente hago. He incluido tiempo para aprender, sanarme y darme animo.

La vida real no esta muy alejada de lo que es la costura. Si hacemos algo, puede que no nos resulte como esperábamos, por ello siempre hay opción de descoser - Porque a la final, mientras exista "tela" (vida), hay esperanza de enmienda.

This year has been a path of absolute learning for me. In my previous years of life, sewing had gone unnoticed even though I had acquired a sewing machine a couple of years ago. At 60 years old, which is my current age, I have decided to expand areas of my life that go beyond what I usually do. I have included time to learn, heal and encourage myself.

Real life is not very far from what sewing is. If we do something, it may not turn out as we expected, so there is always the option to unstitch - Because in the end, as long as there is "fabric" (life), there is hope for amendment.

Aprendiendo sobre costura no solamente he podido realizar diversos proyectos para solventar diferentes aspectos de mi vida, sino también de quienes me rodean. Desde cambios favorecedores en lo emocional, porque me hace sentir útil y capaz; me aporta confianza al abordar nuevos retos. Económicos, porque he podido generar ingresos extras a través de la creación de ropa a medida. Además, he podido satisfacer y colaborar a mis familiares y amistades cercanas creando piezas para mi amiga y su hija, así como también para mis nietos. Considero que esta ultima ha sido un nivel arriba diferente, ver a quienes amas lucir una prenda que elaboraste es un nivel de satisfacción increíble.

Inicié no sabiendo ni un poco, hasta para colocar el hilo a la máquina tuve que revisar e investigar. Gracias a Dios hoy en día en el internet encontramos de todo y para todos, porque es un banco interminable de información al alcance de muchos. Actualmente he podido cortar y armar franelas básicas, vestidos básicos, shorts, sudaderas, pants engomados, blusas infantiles, faldas y algunas cosas más.

By learning about sewing, I have not only been able to carry out various projects to solve different aspects of my life, but also those of those around me. From favorable emotional changes, because it makes me feel useful and capable; It gives me confidence when tackling new challenges. Economical, because I have been able to generate extra income through the creation of custom clothing. Additionally, I have been able to satisfy and collaborate with my family and close friends by creating pieces for my friend and her daughter, as well as for my grandchildren. I consider that the latter has been a different level up, seeing those you love wearing a garment that you made is an incredible level of satisfaction.

I started not knowing a bit, even to attach the thread to the machine I had to check and investigate. Thank God today on the Internet we find everything and for everyone, because it is an endless bank of information within the reach of many. Currently I have been able to cut and put together basic flannels, basic dresses, shorts, sweatshirts, rubberized pants, children's blouses, skirts and some other things.

En cuanto a mis retos y objetivos próximos, se encuentran mejorar en la confección de vestidos femeninos y blusas. Hay algunos cortes de escote y mangas que no me he atrevido a realizar por miedo. Uno de mis proyectos pendientes es la elaboración de un vestido para mi hija, que espero tener tiempo de realizar estos días próximos para obsequiarle antes de fin de año. Hace poco cuando estuve cosiendo un vestido de niña, me llegó una sensación de nostalgia al pensar que hubiera sido totalmente lindo haberle confeccionado vestidos a mi hija cuando era niña. Aunque aún hay tiempo de hacerlo posible.

Otros proyectos que tengo en mente es ir realizando conjuntos para mi nieta Lis, ella vive conmigo y cuando llegó al país no pudo traer mayor cantidad de ropa. Le he confeccionado algunas, y se ha sentido muy feliz, pese a que es algo que no expresa con palabras, puede mostrarlo con su enorme sonrisa acompañada de brillantes ojos.

As for my upcoming challenges and objectives, they are to improve in the making of feminine dresses and blouses. There are some neckline and sleeve cuts that I have not dared to make out of fear. One of my pending projects is making a dress for my daughter, which I hope to have time to make in the coming days to give her as a gift before the end of the year. Recently when I was sewing a girl's dress, I got a feeling of nostalgia when I thought that it would have been totally nice to have made dresses for my daughter when she was a child. Although there is still time to make it possible.

Other projects that I have in mind are making outfits for my granddaughter Lis, she lives with me and when she arrived in the country she couldn't bring more clothes. I have made some of her own, and she has felt very happy, although it is something that she does not express in words, she can show it with her enormous smile accompanied by her bright eyes.

Para el año próximo espero seguir aprendiendo y mejorando mis habilidades, además de mi tiempo de armado. A veces siento que soy algo lenta, pero también considero que es porque trato de coser lo más recto posible para así tener buenos acabados. Espero también que depende de como siga aprendiendo, poder adquirir una máquina Overlock y quizás iniciar un pequeño negocio de costura. Es algo que aún no esta completamente decidido, pero puede que me proponga a incluirle en los objetivos del año 2024.

Mientras, pido a Dios salud, entendimiento, paciencia y amor por todo lo que hago y haré.

For next year I hope to continue learning and improving my skills, as well as my assembly time. Sometimes I feel like I'm a little slow, but I also think it's because I try to sew as straight as possible to have good finishes. I also hope that depending on how I continue learning, I will be able to acquire an Overlock machine and perhaps start a small sewing business. It is something that has not yet been completely decided, but I may propose to include it in the objectives for the year 2024.

Meanwhile, I ask God for health, understanding, patience and love for everything I do and will do.

Así culmina mi reflexión de costura en el 2023. Apenas va floreciendo pero, paso a paso va surgiendo emociones y aprendizajes nuevos. Aprovecho la ocasión para desearles una feliz navidad, que la salud y felicidad les acompañe siempre.

This is how my sewing reflection ends in 2023. It is barely flowering but, step by step, new emotions and learnings emerge. I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas, may health and happiness always accompany you.
