EURO24 contest Quarter Final Update

Hello everybody and welcome to the first of 2 quarter final updates for the Euro24 Football Predictions Contest. We had most people get on correctly under the new knockout format and do not forget people. There is a prize for the highest number of points in the knockout stages alone so if you had a really bad group stage, all is not lost because there is still 30 points max to play for.
I asked you all to predict the result but to make it more exciting , I asked you all whether it was going to be in the 90 minutes , AET or will it go to penalties and last nights games did not disappoint. I went out for these two games and I was slightly worse for wear by the penalties between France and Portugal.

Spain versus Germany

Toni Kroos injured Pedri from the off which had many neutrals swing towards Spain in this one. It was a good match this one and there were many chances but Merino scored in the deaths at the end and did the celebration that his father did in the same arena over 30 years before him. It was Toni Kroos final game but he should have been off. Cucurella is having a great tournament. I'd say some of the big clubs will be looking sign him. Chelsea could be front runners. 🤣

France versus Portugal

Both Ronaldo and Mbappe had bad games in this match. Portugal have been held hostage by Ronaldos legacy all this tournament. Seeing Fernandez being taken off while Ronaldo strutted around the pitch took us alot. Mbappe not playing for the penalties was an interesting one. The level of penalty was unbelievable. Little Jaoa Felix missed a penalty in the end and France got through.

So we had only 2 scorers yesterday. That is @jmehta who predicted the penalties win for France received a whooping 5 points and @peppermint24 who predicted the Spain AET result received 2 points. This has propelled @jmehta into first position on the leaderboard. Both of these users are having a great knockout stage of the competition and have 19 and 17 points which is 1st and 2nd in the knockout stage prize.

Standings Quarter Final Update

So below are the standings @micheal87 is still on top but @jmehta is after blasting a hole in his lead with her 5 points yesterday. There are 12 people above the 30 points which is very tight indeed at the top so anyone can win it . You can see everybodies selections above. If you want to change your mind on any of the selections or I have made an error in them just let me know. If I have you down for say just England it means England in 90 minutes. Tonights match will be interesting as the predictions are half and half in the England and Switzerland match but only 2 people have went for Turkey against the Netherlands. And one of them knows his football I can tell ya so I am slightly concerned.
Would you believe I am in an Irish version of this at the moment with 2k to the winner. I am currently first. Did not have any result my way last night and went for Switzerland and Netherlands in 90 minutes tonight so I am biting my nails on this one. These ones are very hard to predict. One minute I reckon England could get a ride hiding tonight from the first good team they have met. But another thought is that Switzerland might attack them and a back 3 formation may suit England. It is hard to know. They have to come good at some stage.
With the Netherlands Turkey match is another tough one but my feeling is the Netherlands have too much for the Turks plus are the Turkish team not all suspended for this one? This is exciting guys. The only problem here is that her good self booked a lovely meal in a lovely restaurant for tonight so I will miss a match. However the deal was given that if I was to watch the matches on Friday and have a nice time then I would be the designated driver for tonight so you can expect an update this evening.

Semi Finals

So we have our first semi final in
Spain versus France . Spain are slight favourites making them the home team.

The next semi final will be decided tonight.

The games are not until next Tuesday but food for thought on who you are going to select.
