Hello everyone,
The Euros 2024 is about to kick off in Germany this Friday the 14th June and I thought we should add a bit of competition to this on Football on Hive. Now I know the lads over on Hivebuzz will probably be doing a contest. I got onto them there to see if they are doing one. If not, rest assured that I am the safety net and I am running a similar contest to them. Now there are a couple of differences that I will go into below but the important thing to know is that entry is free for anyone who would like to take part. I will be cranking up the excel sheet as we speak to add entrants. Now many of you do not know much about the teams taking part but our own @stuartcturnbull has the group stage previews covered over in the Football On Hive Community. The Prediction Competition will be running the whole of the European Championship this year. OK let us get started with the rules.

The Basics

There will be 2 posts per day while the Euros are going on. One post will be the fixtures that I will post for the next day. For example this Friday the Euros are kicking off so I will do a post on Thursday with the fixture list for the day after. In this post the contestants (hopefully you) will give me there predictions on the matches. The second post will be the results from the days games and the current standings in the contest.

So for example this Saturday 15TH June we will see 3 games played.
Spain vs Croatia
Italy vs Albania
Hungary Vs Switzerland

If you comment , Spain win , Italy win , Hungary vs Switzerland draw on the post then I will populate the sheet with your predictions.

Scoring System Group Stages

Now we are all aware there is no "Home " team at the Euros with the exception of Germany who are hosting the tournament but the home team in this case will be the team who is the bookies favourite to win the fixture. In the unlikely event that two teams have the same odds I will go with the team that has the highest FIFA rankings for that fixture. So in this contest we love a risk taker as if the underdog wins you get 3 points!! Not too shabby!

Scoring System Knockout Stages

Now the knockout stages will be scored differently. If a contestant has not had a great group stage total then fear not. There is plenty of skin still in the game. We are going to up the ante in the knockout stages and increase the scoring. A prize will also be given to the contestant with the most points during the knockout stages who is outside the top 3.

Rules

A few rules below. We will be checking for alt accounts. Anyone with 2 entries will be eliminated from the competition. (We are on a blockchain , its not rocket science.)

So I shall start off with the below prize pool from fund @blanchy and see where this goes.

So keep an eye out for the next post on Thursday 13th June with the first game to be played on Friday between Germany and Scotland at 8pm. Germany will be the home team for this one as they are favourites but do some of you fancy a draw for 2 pts or an away win for 3pts. Interesting stuff. Chat soon my Hive friends.

• One point, If you are not worried who the home team and away team are then you can give me all your predictions at once for the group stages. I know some of you are not on Hive every day. Also the odds are available on bookies websites at the moment and most of the time they are pretty accurate even though we are a few days out from the first fixture.
