Hace unos meses venia pensando en este increíble concurso el cual nos tienen acostumbrados en la comunidad de NeedleworkMonday; poco a poco venia acumulando algunos jeans para cuando llegara este maravilloso momento. La fiesta del jean comenzó hace 15 días y mientras tanto yo me quedé en blanco viendo aquellos jeans desvencijados sobre la mesa.

A few months ago I was thinking about this incredible contest that we are used to in the NeedleworkMonday community; little by little I was accumulating some jeans for when this wonderful moment would arrive. The jean party started 15 days ago and in the meantime I remained blank looking at those dilapidated jeans on the table.

Los días pasaban y pasaban y no encontraba nada que hacer, día tras día revisaba la página y veía ideas increíbles hechas por mis compañeras de la comunidad. A ratos me metía en instagram, Pinterest, YouTube para encontrar algo con lo que me sintiera cómoda y feliz, porque para mí, estas dos características deben estar intrínsecas en cada cosa que hago en mi vida.

Days passed and passed and I couldn't find anything to do, day after day I checked the page and saw amazing ideas made by my fellow community members. At times I would go on instagram, pinteres, YouTube to find something that I felt comfortable and happy with, because for me, these two characteristics should be intrinsic in everything I do in my life.

Ser manualista no significa un sacrificio, ni un trabajo pesado, para mi ser manualista es ser libre, es sentirme cómoda, tranquila y segura. Nunca he hecho nada por obligación, creo que si éstas fueran las circunstancias preferiría recular y no hacer nada.

Being a manualist does not mean a sacrifice, nor a heavy work, for me to be a manualist is to be free, it is to feel comfortable, calm and safe. I have never done anything out of obligation, I think that if these were the circumstances I would prefer to back off and do nothing.

El concurso de manualidades con jean va de la mano con el reciclaje, es fundamental que entendamos que dándole una oportunidad a una prenda que está a punto de ir a la basura es algo importante. Hoy cada una de nosotras hemos hecho reciclaje y hemos contribuido para que haya menos basura en nuestro entorno.

Crafts and recycling:

The jean craft contest goes hand in hand with recycling, it is fundamental that we understand that giving a chance to a garment that is about to go to the trash is something important. Today each one of us have done some recycling and have contributed to reduce the amount of garbage in our environment.

Algunas han hecho cojines, bolsos, ropa, cartucheras, detalles para embellecer nuestro hogar y aun podemos seguir inventando día tras día mas cosas con la que de seguro estaremos contentos cada vez que los veamos.

Some of us have made cushions, bags, clothes, pencil cases, details to embellish our home and we can continue inventing day after day more things that we will surely be happy with every time we see them.

Recuerdo al oso nacho que hice en el concurso pasado, que bonito es ver y recordar que hice aquel oso en un momento en el que sentía mucha nostalgia por un chico que era como mi hijo y que en esos días había partido rumbo a Portugal. Ese oso es mío y lo conservo con mucho cariño en un lugar especial y a veces cuando me aflora la locura lo abrazo, le hablo un rato con él.

I remember the nacho bear that I made in the last contest, how nice it is to see and remember that I made that bear at a time when I felt very nostalgic for a boy who was like my son and that in those days he had left for Portugal. That bear is mine and I keep it with great affection in a special place and sometimes when I feel crazy I hug him, talk to him and even play with him for a while.

Ahora que les conté un poco de estos sentimientos tontos que guarda esta vieja loca, me gustaría contarles un poco de donde nace la idea de esta súper cesta, vianda, bolso, lonchera o como la quieran llamar.

Resulta que hay un dicho que dice “En casa de herrero, cuchillo de palo” ¡y que pena tener que confesarles la verdad! desde hace un año mi hijo mayor comenzó a trabajar con mi esposo en el mismo lugar y no tenían un bolso adecuado para llevar los alimentos.

Now that I told you a little bit about these silly feelings that this crazy old lady keeps, I would like to tell you a little bit about where the idea of this super basket, lunchbox, bag, lunchbox or whatever you want to call it was born.

It turns out that there is a saying that goes "In a blacksmith's house, a wooden knife" and what a shame to have to confess the truth! Since a year ago my eldest son started working with my husband in the same place and they did not have a proper bag to carry food.

Esta idea siempre rondaba en mi cabeza cada vez que me tocaba hacer la lonchera por las mañanas y no me cabía todo en el mismo lugar, por tanto siempre había que recurrir a una bolsa plástica de esas que sobran del mercado semanal.

Una vez encontré en instagram una bolsa muy bonita y de inmediato dije para mi ¡Algún día haré una bolsa así para Israel y José!

This idea always hovered in my head every time I had to make the lunch box in the morning and I could not fit everything in the same place, so I always had to resort to a plastic bag of those left over from the weekly market.

Once I found a very nice bag on instagram and I immediately said to myself "Someday I'll make a bag like this for Israel and José!

Pues así es como después de luchar varios días contra mi mente en blanco llegó esta oportunidad y con ella hacer lo que dice el dicho “matar dos pájaros de un solo tiro” ¡pero tranquilos! Es solo un dicho, aquí no vinimos a matar a nadie, por el contrario, aquí solo vinimos a revivir una pieza de jean que todos daban por muerta.

Con esta idea participaba con algo útil para el concurso y por otro lado cumplía la promesa que había hecho un día para mí.

Well that's how after several days of fighting against my blank mind this opportunity came and with it I could do what the saying goes "kill two birds with one stone" but don't worry! It's just a saying, here we did not come to kill anyone, on the contrary, here we only came to revive a piece of jean that everyone thought was dead.

With this idea I was participating with something useful for the contest and on the other hand I was fulfilling the promise I had made one day to myself.

Trabajar este bolso fue muy fácil, muy bonito; aquí no hubo ninguna dificultad. Por suerte conté con la ayuda de nuestro amigo favorito YouTube y pude tomar varias ideas, medidas, combinaciones de tela para realizar dentro de mis posibilidades la mejor de las bolsas.

Me fui el día jueves al taller de costura y encontré varias opciones de tela para combinar y aunque se supone era un bolso para machos, no pude resistirme a la idea de colocarle una tela con flores.

Working on this bag was very easy, very nice; there was no difficulty at all. Luckily I had the help of our favorite friend YouTube and I could take several ideas, measures, fabric combinations to make within my possibilities the best of the bags.

I went to the sewing workshop on Thursday and found several fabric options to combine and although it was supposed to be a bag for males, I could not resist the idea of placing a fabric with flowers.

Cuando trabajas con videos de YouTube es importante no adelantarse ningún paso antes de escuchar a la experta, aunque uno crea que este bien hacerlo es mejor perder un minuto y atender lo que dicen. En el paso donde debemos cortar las esquinas debemos tomar la medida de 8 centímetros a partir de la costura que previamente hemos hecho con la máquina, esto hará que todas las costuras coincidan a la perfección.

When you work with YouTube videos it's important not to get ahead of yourself before listening to the expert, even if you think it's right to do it, it's better to waste a minute and listen to what they say. In the step where we must cut the corners we must take the measure of 8 centimeters from the seam that we have previously made with the machine, this will make all the seams match perfectly.

Otro punto importante es que por ser o tratarse de un bolso para hombres es mejor reforzar muy bien las costuras, así el bolso durara mucho tiempo. La parte interna está hecha con una especie de tela plástica, idea para limpiar con facilidad; esta tela la podemos cambiar por una tela metálica o térmica que te ayuda a conservar el frio o calor de los alimentos.

Another important point is that since it is a bag for men, it is better to reinforce the seams very well, so the bag will last a long time. The inner part is made with a kind of plastic fabric, idea for easy cleaning; this fabric we can change it for a metallic or thermal fabric that helps you to preserve the cold or heat of the food.

Anécdota:

Al ver terminada mi cesta traté nuevamente de colocarle un color oscuro al cordón, un color para ¡machos! Pero la balanza se inclinó nuevamente hacia el toque femenino y la tejí un cordón en color turquesa que resaltara con la tela de jean.

When I saw my finished basket, I tried again to add a dark color to the cord, a color for boys! But the scales tipped again towards the feminine touch and I wove a turquoise cord that would stand out with the jean fabric.

Pues resulta que cuando llegó mi esposo en la noche coloqué el bolso sobre la cama y le di la sorpresa, mi esposo lo veía y lo volvía a ver y terminamos atacados de la risa porque yo definitivamente no hice ese bolso pensando en ellos, sino pensando en mí.

A la mañana siguiente lo primero que hizo mi esposo fue venir al lugar donde estaba el bolso y muy forondo metió todo en su nueva lonchera y se fue a trabajar.

It turns out that when my husband arrived at night I put the bag on the bed and gave him the surprise, my husband saw it and saw it again and we ended up laughing because I definitely did not make that bag thinking of them, but thinking of me.

The next morning the first thing my husband did was to come to the place where the bag was and very well he put everything in his new lunch box and went to work.

Otra que se divirtió con esta cesta fue la minina de la casa, mientras estuve acomodando todo en el set de fotografía, ella llego voltio la cesta y se metió en ella con la intención de dormir. Luego juntas nos fuimos al jardín y como es costumbre en los gatos quería tomar los hilos para ponerse a jugar. Para no ser tan mala, la deje jugar un rato, pero luego la corrí y se molestó (véanle la cara de mala que tiene en la foto).

Another one who had fun with this basket was the little girl of the house, while I was arranging everything in the photo set, she turned the basket upside down and got into it with the intention of sleeping. Then together we went to the garden and as usual in cats she wanted to take the strings to play. In order not to be so mean, I let her play for a while, but then I ran her away and she got upset (see her mean face in the picture).

Pues como ven, reciclar, coser, tejer, jugar, inventar, son los objetivos a lograr. Ahora veo este trabajo terminado y me doy cuenta que no solo sirve para vianda o lonchera, sino que sirve para transportar otras cosas como por ejemplo mis agujas e hilos cuando me voy de viaje o las salsas y galletas cuando vamos al parque, entre otros usos infinitos que les quieras dar.

As you can see, recycling, sewing, knitting, playing, inventing, are the goals to achieve. Now I see this finished work and I realize that it not only serves as a lunch box or lunch box, but also to transport other things such as my needles and threads when I go on a trip or sauces and cookies when we go to the park, among other infinite uses that you want to give them.
