Beer Saturday, tasting Vilhelm

This week I have once again been doing a #beersaturday taste, this time of Vilhelm by De 5 Gaarde.

This beer is in the same category as Orla and Falle, so I was expecting some rather good and almost non-bitter beer.

I also got a surprise during my taste of Vilhelm. Read on 😄

Looks

I was met by a beautiful amber coloured beer with a tempting, good looking crown. I mean, just look at that

Definitely looking like a brilliant beer!

Smell

The wonderful smell of beer is well defined in Vilhelm. A twist of lemon (or grape) and maybe even fir needles (thank you Google for helping translate that. It sounds wrong to me though... hope it's correct).

Taste

With the look and smell of this beer, my expectations had gone to as as with my previous encounters with this brewery.
I was met by a very, very strong taste of bitterness, which I didn't expect. Maybe I should have expected it since there is a tiny scent of those fir needles. At least it doesn't taste like that cheap Gin 😂

Conclusion

After having survived the shock of the bitter taste, due to the unexpected taste, it is a good beer. It almost tastes exotic and I can highly recommend Vilhelm beer by De 5 Gaarde.
When the bitterness is expected, this is very refreshing.

The contents of the bottle is equal to two regular beers.

Look at that beautiful sight of a beer being poured in a mug 🍺 😍

I love that label. Also Fir needles would make sense for a smell, there a hops which are normally described as 'Pine' as in the tree so that smell is coming from the hops which would be predominate in a India Pale Ale.
