Hoegaarden Bière Blanche: A Refreshing Sip, But One Bottle Too Short!

avatar

I had a bit of free time last Sunday, so I went to the grocery store to check out a #beer I hadn't tried before. The Hoegaarden Bière Blanche caught my attention, so I grabbed a bottle to give it a try. It was good! My only regret is that I didn't grab another bottle.

I find that the best time for me to grab a beer is on the weekends. A light buzz is enough to help me relax after a long week. Since I had just returned from an overseas trip, I felt like I needed something to unwind with on a Sunday night.

While I was at the grocery store, I picked up some food that I thought would pair well with the beer. I was experimenting with my selections since I wasn’t entirely sure what would complement this Wit-Blanche. Eventually, I settled on a roasted chicken leg, young Gouda cheese, and bread. I also decided to try an egg with cheese.

After a few bites of food and sips of beer, I realized that the only thing that paired well with it was the young Gouda cheese. The chicken seemed okay at first, but I quickly grew tired of it halfway through. Something about the grilled chicken just didn’t sit right with the beer.

The beer has a light citrus flavor, which I believe would pair better with seafood dishes. I should have picked up some prawns instead of the chicken.

Name of the beer: Hoegaarden Biere Blanche
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.9%
Ingredients: Wheat beer brewed with coriander and orange peel
Color: Light Yellow and natural murky quality

A few weeks ago, I tried the Blanc version from Kronenbourg, and if I were to compare it to Hoegaarden, I’d say it’s less complex. I think Hoegaarden’s infusion of coriander and orange peel adds an extra layer of flavor. Although the extra flavors are subtle, they enhance the beer’s complexity just enough.

Did I mention that I regret not grabbing another bottle? Yeah, that’s because I only felt a slight buzz from its 4.9% ABV. 😂 I think I had too much food, so one beer wasn’t enough. Another bottle would have made the overall dining experience much better. 😁

Overall, Hoegaarden Bière Blanche turned out to be a refreshing choice with its light citrus notes and subtle complexity. While my food pairing experiment wasn’t perfect, the young Gouda cheese was a clear winner, and I’ve learned that seafood might be a better match next time. Lesson learned—one bottle wasn’t enough, so I’ll definitely be grabbing an extra one for a better experience next time!

At least, you didn't regret on your first try. You can grab some more next time. 😉 So, this type of beer goes well with seafood. I haven't tried this though, but I imagine pairing it with fried calamari. Only the cheese seemed to complement with the beer, so next time you know which ones to pick. More beer, more happiness hehe... Cheers!

Fried calamari sounds nice ☺️ Thanks for the suggestion!

And yeah, more beer 🍻 = 😁 but I would be fine with 2 bottles 😂

Hehe... Yes, 2 bottles, save some for the rainy days. There's limit to everything. After consuming 2 bottles, what's left is inner happiness. 😀

Trust me a second bottle always hits the spot,, i was thinking the beer would go with the chicken, but my thoughts winded back nahh it might also go well with some fried or barbeque meat

The beer looks delicious, complemented well by the eggs, cheese, and chicken leg. I love the grilled chicken. Enjoy! Cheers!

Yeah. I did enjoy the grilled chicken but I felt that grilled seafood would fit with the beer better 😋

Not my top choice for beer as it felt a little too casual, prefer something in the range of 1664 or Heineken but definitely still something nice to drink.

1664 is still my go-to 😁

This one just got me curious whether the coriander and orange peel will actually makes a difference but it was really subtle.

Ehi what a delicious dish, it looks beautiful, you combine food very well.

The beer seems exquisite with those ingredients, I would never have imagined coriander and orange in this type of beverage. I think in my country they are not so creative with beer, I will have to find out. 🤭😜.

Have a good rest and good health ! @curamax

Oh. I see. My comment was purely based on how refreshing it looks. I wish I could try it too, so I can comment on alcohol content.

Oh 😳 I forgot that alcohol have different effects to each person. And the taste would also affect on the way the alcohol affects you 😜

You are right. Especially if you have a low alcohol tolerance, you might finish a whole chicken after just one bottle of beer because you'll be feeling the effects of the alcohol🤣.

Yeah, some people will feel drunk just because of the taste. And eating food while drinking beer will lessen that effect 😁

Hoegaarden Was my go to for years! I first had it in NYC at a bar watching my friends jazz trio play. It was actually Aaron Comess the drummer from the Spin Doctors who told me to try it. I was 21. It’s great stuff indeed! Cheers! 🍻

I don't regret trying this one. Now I have a good option other than Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc 😁

It's one of those beers that grows on you over time. Great on a summers day outside on the grass or outside a bar/cafe.

This beer is good. My husband likes Hoegaarden beer, and when we want to have it, I will get a Rose Hoegaarden; it has a fruity flavor. I do understand that for you, one small bottle won't be enough. And yes, this beer is nice for seafood pairings like prawns or oysters.

I haven't tried the Rose version but I heard it has a more fruity taste and more on the sweeter side. I should give it a try soon :)

Yes, it is correct, the fruity flavor and smooth effect are amazing too, especially when you like something for ladies, on any occasion my mother in-law and sister in-law and I, we always go for Hoegaarden for the chill out.
