Yes smaller ones are forgiving and friendly but cannot abuse it also.
I think we need to build a good rapport with them, specially on the community that we like. Although we cannot avoid a few toxic people so just be wary and try to show we contribute, Just like what @x-rain mentioned.
Yep, about toxic, I would suggest to avoid Italy main sub, it's full of toxic people, a lot of troll and downvotes
Agree. But strict doesn't always mean bad. The stricter a sub is, the more use you can get from engagement + sharing the best activity there. But this is only if a sub is open to blog links and its audience likes reading long reads. Finding relevant articles to share there is another difficult mission.
I think in some subs if you drop a link, it could be worth drop a comment with a small sneak peak of like 1 sentence, so you don't look like a bot or a spammer looking for clicks...
