A Trappist from Westmalle
The monks did it.
Hey my fellow beer enthusiasts and beer lovers! Today, I'm excited to dive into the delicious world of the "Westmalle Trappist Triple." 🍻
This beer is a Belgian gem, and I'm here to give you the lowdown on where it comes from and how it's created.
Enjoy this story while I sipping on a few of them at a place of some friends in Belgium 🇧🇪.
Hey Hive Family
let us travel the world again
today with another Trappist beer
Some cool facts about Westmalle
The beery home
The Westmalle Trappist Triple hails from the heart of Trappist brewing excellence - the Westmalle Abbey located in Malle, Belgium. The monks of Westmalle have been perfecting their brewing craft since 1836, making it one of the oldest Trappist breweries in the world. These monks are known for their commitment to brewing exceptional beer while adhering to strict monastic principles.
What Trappist beer?
The Trappist beer story is a thrilling journey into the world of beer that's intimately tied to the devotion of monks. Picture this: in the early 19th century, these monks decided they needed to support their monasteries, so they turned to brewing right within those sacred walls. Their commitment to simplicity, prayer, and labor resulted in something magical.
Out of this dedication emerged some of the world's most extraordinary beers. Think limited production, top-notch ingredients, and yeast strains with secret recipes that make each brew a unique masterpiece.
Currently, there are just 14 Trappist breweries globally, mainly in Belgium but with a few in the Netherlands and even one in the USA.
This are the 14 Trappist breweries:
- Achel - Belgium
- Chimay - Belgium
- Engelszell - Austria
- La Trappe - Netherlands
- Orval - Belgium
- Rochefort - Belgium
- Westmalle - Belgium
- Westvleteren - Belgium
- Zundert - Netherlands
- Spencer - United States
- Tynt Meadow - United Kingdom
- Mount St. Bernard - United Kingdom
- Tre Fontane - Italy
- Mariawald - Germany
Each of these breweries produces unique and exceptional beers, often following centuries-old traditions. Enjoy exploring the diverse flavors offered by these Trappist breweries if you have the opportunity!
For beer lovers, the Trappist beer story is like sipping history, tradition, and spiritual devotion in every glass. It's a reminder that beer isn't just a drink; it's a deeply rooted experience connecting us to the past and the divine. Cheers to that! 🍻
The Taste of the beer
Yeah, let's talk about the best part – the taste! When you crack open a bottle of Westmalle Trappist Triple, you're greeted with a gorgeous golden hue and a frothy, billowing head. The aroma is a symphony of fruity and spicy notes with hints of banana, pear, and clove.
On the palate, you'll experience a delightful balance of sweet malts and a gentle bitterness that leaves you wanting more. The alcohol content, around 9.5%, is well-hidden, making it a dangerously smooth drink.
Just 9.5%
Be careful with that beer as it comes with delightful 9,5% of alc
My beery Conclusion
After a few sip of that great beer, here is my opinion.
The Westmalle Trappist Triple is a masterpiece of Belgian brewing tradition, showcasing the artistry of the Trappist monks. It's a beer that demands reverence and appreciation, with its rich history and impeccable craftsmanship. So, if you ever get the chance, be sure to savor this heavenly brew straight from the abbey that has been perfecting it for nearly two centuries. Cheers! 🍻
This kind of beer you drink slowly for the taste. I decided to need some more taste as I found another one in fridge of my friend.

For a beer having 9.5% for me is lovely. This is because after a good meal and two bottles I can sleep good sleep
I can confirm this from last night
Even the coffee after the beer didn't changed the result
In another life I want to come back with a spare liver and stomach in order to spend my time consuming Belgian beers and chocolate. Thank you for this nice presentation 🙂
Heheee, if you handle the taste in fair amounts, even one of this bodyparts can do the job.
By coincidence I have just watched a video about Belgium beers, by a German and a American.
Obviously the Belgians like it strong. Or they want to be home early from the pub... :)
There are several Trappist beers mentioned as well, watch here:
That sounds cool. Will have a look later.
Many of my German friends are not used to all the different tastes
From the you describe the beer, just make me want to taste some😊

I came across a story about the beer consumed by monks during the Lenten season, although I cannot confirm its authenticity. Ash Wednesday is observed on the day after Shrove Tuesday and marks the start of a 40-day fasting period that is commonly followed by Catholics until Easter. During this time, it is believed that some monks relied on beer as a source of sustenance instead of solid food. One can only imagine the experiences they must have had during this time of self-restraint. 😎

Westmalle is indeed some nice #belgian beer! I love both their tripel and their dubbel.
If you would anytime be open to try something new, you should combine half of a tripel and half of a dubbel, we call it 'triptrap', It's the best of both worlds and the beautifull part is, you have to ask someone to share the other halfs with. Ends sometimes with great friendships ;)
Wow - that is a damn cool idea. Will try this next time.
Now 9.5%, that´s beer for adults! Looks amazing. Great review! :)
Thanks - and yes 2 for an evening fine.
