Puerto Rican Pride -- CCC's Street Art Contest #217

It's been a few weeks since I got my act together to get my art posting for the weekly contest, but I'm back to share some of the best street art my neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn, USA has to offer.

With the theme of Latin History Month echoing in my mind, I decided to show off a piece of art that caught my eye a few blocks from my school. My homeroom was assigned Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 to represent for our Latin History Month assembly on Friday. So I wanted to find a piece of street art that I could print out and my students could color in to show out for PR.

There's so much to love about this colorful piece located on the corner of Harman Ave and Knickerbocker Ave, starting with the tag "Mrs," the abbreviation for misses, meaning it is a female artist. The phrase "Cute Graff Only" at the top of the piece speaks to the bright color and playful design she used.

Then there is all the Puerto Rican flare. From the familiar frog strumming a Puerto Rican guitar and the adorable child with colorful hat and shirt to the butterfly in the sky, PR's Red, White, and Blue command your attention. In the background of the art, the orange of the beach, the blue of the water, and the golden hues of sunset bring the scene to life. Finally, down in the bottom right corner, she shows some love for her mom who undoubtedly instilled strong cultural values in her daughter.

Thanks for taking the time to read through my contest entry. I hope you enjoyed my thoughtful description and a peek inside the colorful world of Bushwick's street art scene. Until next time...
