Like a garden of paradise: My pumpkin #hwc2024

After almost three weeks since my last post, a report from my garden, I'm checking in again 🙂

Judging by the state of the pumpkins I took part in #hwc2024 the Hive World Pumpkin Championship hosted by @hive-world-champ, it seems there is still hope for me and my pumpkins.

Although very dry weather, this one, which I mentioned in the last post, is still growing.

It is there, hidden in the grass under the shade of the leaves, and in the place where it is directly hit by the sun's rays, we have placed the fabric as protection from the sun.

OK, this is a Pumpkin contest post, but given the other fruits and vegetables in my garden, I might enter a few more contests 🙂

Tomatoes, the Oxheart variety, the seeds my mother got years ago and saves each year for the next year, grow to an almost unbelievable size and weight.

It happens that some fruits weigh up to 800, 900 grams.

One tomato is enough for a salad for two people.
It has a beautiful crop, thanks to my mother, who regularly waters it and repairs the protective net that was torn down by the wind, which protects it from the sun and rain.
The fruits are so tender that the skin around the stem bursts with every drop of rain that falls on it. Those scars and cracks in no way affect the taste and sweetness that this tomato has, the only thing is that it doesn't look pretty until it's chopped into a salad.
But that doesn't even matter to us. We know that it is our tomato, grown organically, without the use of chemicals and that it is completely safe to use.
When it's ready to eat, the red color, smell and taste make you forget what kind of damage it had...

In addition to tomatoes, we also have zucchini, which grow right next to pumpkins.
They are my favorite.

A beautiful dark green color, which shimmers in the sun... I was most pleased when I saw how small fruits are formed and how many there are on one plant.

I didn't remember to take a picture of the meal we made from zucchini - cut into strips, rolled in flour, then in beaten eggs and fried in oil, the so-called "fried zucchini".
In combination with homemade tomatoes, an indescribably delicious meal.

And as for fruit, there is a variety of it...
We have grapes, an apple, a pear, a peach, a very young plum, which has started to bear fruit, as well as three fig trees.

One fig is an early variety, which delights us with tasty fruits towards the end of spring, while two are later varieties, which are now in the family.
These two figs have so many fruits that we don't have time to pick them and eat them.

An ideal opportunity to make our neighbors happy with some sweet refreshment...

Due to the announcement of high temperatures in the coming period, mother announced that she will monitor the condition in the garden and water our plants if necessary, and I will contact you with a new report again in two or three weeks, when I return from summer vacation (unless I run into to some garden that will be worth mentioning in this community🙂).

Your garden is thriving. Your pumpkin plants are thriving.

If I compare all the entries, you are the absolute favourite in all categories!

Unfortunately, my pumpkins seem to be sick somehow.

Thanks🙂

My pumpkins are fighting a dangerous battle with the hot summer days.
The question is, what will it be until October. So far, a large number of embryos have died, as soon as they start to grow, they dry up and wither...

It's a shame if the disease destroys them, unrelated to this contest, you should have them for the fall...

it's better to choose a maximum of 5 pumpkins per plant, then at least the others will grow nice and big.

I wish you continued success

Thanks 🫶
Tomatoes are completely peeled. What was not eaten in the salad, ended up in tomato juice and puree that will wait in the freezer for its chance to complete a dish.

The grapes are next for harvest 🙂
