Frustration station

(Edited)

Junior, a boy of 7, sat on his study desk. Books pile on the table not neatly arranged. He seemed disorganized going through the math problem after failing to solve it for the fifth time. His face grew red as he pushed the book aside. He groaned under his breath and grumbled silently.
"I hate math"
A part of him was convinced he could learn it, but he hates it whenever he fails multiple times trying to solve one problem. The daily study wasn't helping, but that of today was frustrating and I couldn't help but to pour out his frustrations.

Junior's mum watched her son from the window and wondered what had gotten him upset, but his consistent stare at the book he had thrown gave her an idea of what it was. She knew how hard he studied and the only way she could support him was to hire a tutor who would make his learning easy. She had noticed how frustrated he gets whenever he steps into his mini-library to study, she had jokingly nicknamed there a frustration station.

The next morning she hired Mr Ben, a mathematics teacher to help guide Junior in the learning process. Junior who had given up on mathematics couldn't help but try again, hoping he'd learn this time. Mr Ben started with the basics, helping Junior learn in patience. His story on how he started gave Junior hope that he could learn how to solve it.

Junior dedicated his time, learning in his private time also. In a few weeks he was able to understand how to solve complex problems and ways to derive and apply formulas. It was the joy of Mr. Ben and Junior's mum as they watched Junior tackle complex mathematics problems easily.

Hello @dwixer. I love the name "Frustration Station". My mom could have used that for me for my room in elementary school, first grade, as I failed that grade. I could barely spell "cat" and "dog" let alone the complex mathematical problems you describe at age 7. But you do bring out some of the issues children have early on in learning.

I was happy to hear Junior's mom hired a tutor to help. Some parents can't afford this cost. Sometimes stepping back and allowing someone else to coach your child can be effective is the parent is at a loss or doesn't have patience.

Thanks for sharing this story. It's relatable.

Haha. Most people struggle with maths , including myself, I struggled hard to learn it myself in high school

Maths isn't easy if you can't discover how to think. Patience and insight turn out to be all home needs.

That's true. Maths isn't easy, I remember how hard I struggled with it
