The thinker's corner

This post is in response to @kenechukwu97's Post with the question

January is a month of Planning, Wishes, Goal-setting, and New Year Resolutions. We do these with the genuine belief that things will go as planned. However, what if we are already halfway through 2024, and nothing seems to be working as planned? What if your attempts to achieve your goals are yielding uninspiring results?

Tell us how you will react.

My Reaction

The culture we've gradually adopted is making resolutions at the start of a new year. We dab our goals with beautiful colors only to realize we've not achieved any of the set goals. Along the way many people give up and settle for less, some pitch themselves with hope on faith, while others strive to ensure they reach the goal. If I was to find myself in the situation described above, this is how I'll respond;

First, I'll revisit the resolutions i have jolted down. Sometimes in the spirit of the celebration, and an aura that alleviates our hopes for every new year, there's always a possibility that our goals weren't SMART(specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely). I may have hoped for something too high skipping the steps/objectives that makes it achievable. So, I'll revisit my goals for a brief review

Secondly, After the brief review, I'll evaluate the resources I have gathered so far if it is enough to meet my goals, if not, I'll find possible ways to gather more. The resources can range from the materials I need, the humans and the finance. If any of the three is deficient, I'll seek ways to get more or execute any other goal that the resources are sufficient for.

Finally, I'll do the 10X rule. Work ten times harder than I did the previous months. It's possible I didn't give my best in the past six months, and it's possible my effort wasn't enough. The 10X rule says, put ten times the effort you did the previous time. After the review, it's possible I may realize I did just little, and from there I might know where I failed and areas that require certain commitment. Its possible I failed the last time because I didn't give in my best, I'll do so, and hopefully a change may sprint up

The 10X rule is a very effective strategy that encourages people to push themselves beyond limits and I've noticed that even when people do just a 3X of their effort and they do it really well, it will surely get a really good result for them.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic 👍.

The euphoria of the new year with the merriment can lead one to setting goals or resolutions that are of tall order. Going back to the drawing board is a sign of diligence and not weakness or doubt.

Also I like the 10x rule you proposed but this might be effective for those who have a flexible income rather than a fixed income.

I believe people check the weight of their income before setting goals. This is important

It is kind of you to include the 10x rule, and while you are at it, remember that health also matters (i.e., rest).

... and revisiting the resolution. That's a good move. We never know how high our emotions are when we get so joyous until we check what has been expected to occur.

It's wise that people consider rest if they don't want to break down.
