I Prefer Freelancing #199

Hello, beautiful ladies of Hive! I hope you're all having a great week. It's exciting to see this week's contest on traditional employment and freelancing.

Personally, I’ve always been a big fan of freelancing. I believe that we all have the potential to be our own bosses. If, for some reason, we can’t become our own boss, then we have to work for someone else who is, in return, we get paid for our time and effort.

However, there are risks with this type of job. If your employer gets upset with you, you could be fired. Or, once you reach retirement age, you’ll have to retire. How will you spend the rest of your life after that?

This is why I support freelancing over the traditional system of employment. I'm sharing my thoughts as part of the contest comparing traditional employment to freelancing and explaining why I prefer freelancing.

The simple answer is that I chose and still prefer freelancing. I am my own boss, and I can manage my business effectively. The key difference between the two types of jobs is that, in an unstable economy like Nigeria's, it’s important to have a backup. When freelancing isn't paying well, having a traditional job can help cover basic expenses like food and rent.

However, before any entrepreneur can rely on freelancing to make ends meet each month, they need to build a solid client base.

One mistake many freelancers make is quitting their current job too soon to focus on a skill they’ve just learned, without having a strong client base. This can be very frustrating.

Here are the reasons why I chose freelancing:

I will have more time for myself

The traditional work system is repetitive, often requiring people to leave home by 8 AM and return by 8 PM. To make it worse, most employers don’t care much about giving their staff proper leave days. This makes it hard for women to find time to rest, apart from Saturdays.

I'm not saying that the traditional work system is entirely bad, but for a woman, there should be times when she prioritizes rest, and I’m a big supporter of that. If I don’t take time to rest, I usually get stressed out or feel fatigued easily.

Exploring my Interest and Creativity

The current traditional education system often stifles one's interests and creativity. You get used to a system, and after years of service, you retire because your work is no longer needed.

This has been the norm in traditional employment, which is why I prefer freelancing instead. The reason I chose design as my skill is to express my creativity in service delivery. This drives my quest for more knowledge.

The tech field is constantly evolving, and staying up-to-date requires exploring areas of your interest. This helps you gain a deeper understanding, learn new things, and develop your abilities.

Thank you for reading my blog.

I agree with having more time for yourself and time to do your interest when freelancing. Just need efficient time management time, though. Because sometimes, freelancing can be toxic, especially when you handle a lot of projects at the same time..
