CCC's Street Art Contest #210: Afro-Cuban art(ENG-ESP) 🌼🎨✨

Hello to all the members of the community. Today I have been walking through the streets of Guanabacoa (Cuba) in search of medicinal plants and I have come to a neighborhood where an artist lives whom everyone calls by his attistic nickname "Yoyo".

Hola a todos los miembros de la comunidad. Hoy he estado caminando por las calles de Guanabacoa (Cuba) en busca de plantas medicinales y he llegado a un barrio donde vive un artista al cual todos llaman por su apodo atístico "Yoyo".

This art of Yoyo leans towards the representation of the deities in the Afro-Cuban religion. I didn't get to meet him personally, but I talked a bit with his wife. More than four years ago Yoyo did the mural as part of an urban project called "Encila Iya".

Este arte de Yoyo se inclina hacia la representación de las deidades en la religión afrocubana. No pude conocerlo personalmente a él, pero hablé un poco con su esposa. Hace más de cuatro años Yoyo realizó el mural como parte de un proyecto urbano llamado "Encila Iya".

At the door of Yoyo's garage, two women can be glimpsed. One of them is dressed in white and is in the water surrounded by fish, she is representing the Yoruba goddess Yemayá.

En la puerta del garaje de Yoyo se vislumbra a dos mujeres. Una de ellas está vestida de blanco y está en el agua rodeada de peces, ella está representando a la diosa yoruba Yemayá.

The other woman dressed in red and holding a bird could be the Yoruba goddess Oshún.

La otra mujer vestida de rojo y que está sosteniendo un ave podría tratarse de la diosa yoruba Oshún.

I don't know much about religions, but I know that in the Yoruba religion animals do not represent any deity, so the animal life that Yoyo shows us could be depicting everyday life, or the artist would use it for some kind of symbolism.

No sé mucho sobre religiones, pero sé que en la religión yoruba los animales no representan a ninguna deidad, así que la vida animal que nos muestra Yoyo podría estar plasmando la vida cotidiana, o lo usaría el artista para algún tipo de simbolismo.

The artist also transformed the floor of the sidewalk where he exhibited his art, designing different figures with glass.
I selected this mural to participate in the contest because it represents the expression of the African heritage in Cuba with its Afro-descendant communities. It also has a unique style. It is hard not to be impressed with its colors and patterns.

El artista también transformó el suelo de la acera donde expuso su arte, diseñando distintas figuras con cristal.
He seleccionado este mural para participar en el concurso porque representa la expresión de la herencia africana en Cuba y a sus comunidades afrodescendientes. Además, tiene un estilo único. Es difícil no quedar impresionado con sus colores y patrones.
