| Лебеди – один из символов этого замечательного города. На иждивении городских властей лебеди оказались аж с 15 века. По легенде правитель Максимилиан Австрийский повысил налоги. Недовольные жители Брюгге взбунтовались, казнили присланного к ним из центра советника Питера Ланхалса. После подавления бунта в память о Ланхалсе, фамилия которого переводится как длинношеий, а на гербе изображён лебедь, Максимилиан обязал Брюгге содержать лебедей на балансе города. | Swans are one of the symbols of this wonderful city. Swans have been dependent on city authorities since the 15th century. According to legend, ruler Maximilian of Austria increased taxes. Dissatisfied residents of Bruges rebelled and executed the advisor Peter Lanhals, who was sent to them from the center. After suppressing a riot in memory of Lanhals, whose surname translates as long-necked, and whose coat of arms depicts a swan, Maximilian obliged Bruges to keep swans on the city’s balance sheet. |

| Город и сейчас заботится о них. Стоят кормушки. Учёт птиц раньше вели, помечая на клювах (прижиганием) латинскую букву B и дату рождения лебедя. Но сейчас перешли на кольцевание. На правой ноге - кольцо у самцов, на левой – у самок. Здесь мужички собрались. | The city still takes care of them. There are feeders. Birds used to be counted by marking their beaks (by cauterization) with the Latin letter B and the date of birth of the swan. But now they have switched to rings. On the right leg there is a ring in males, on the left leg in females. The males gathered here. |
