A Painful History that Still Haunts Us

One of the historical events that happened in the past and really affected my country was the issue of slave trade, this is whereby a person will be sold out to a wealthy or influential person to serve him or her, this always comes with maltreament and pain, it is never a thing of joy to our forefathers and life was so terrible in those years.

There were so many rules that governed this slave trade that, two slaves could never marry each other, if this happened it would lead to death, death was the only penalty for this offense, lives were not valued and this made other countries look down on African because they do buy people from Africa as a slave in the past.

According to history, I heard that those wealthy men always used their slaves anyhow, they were the ones who farmed for them and also maltreated them as prisoners, they always maltreated them and chained them, this habit should not have been legalized in the world because we are all one and equal as a human being.

People in those days lived in fear, they were always afraid of war and not to be captured by other warriors who were in search of slaves, they made our people live their lives in fear and always ran away from their homes.

This habit continues now but it is now in a modernized way where you trade other people for money, it is now called human trafficking, you use people against their wishes and also pressure them to be what they do not want to be.

If I had the opportunity to stop this habit in the past, I would have, this is what is affecting most of us in my country now, it is very hard to travel to other countries because they don't value us the way it should be unlike in my country where we valued the white people and always respect their decision, but the reverse is the case when it comes to the black versus the white people.

I believe if this slave trade issue hadn't happened in the past there would have been quick solutions to any conflicts between black people and white people, there would not have been many restrictions from white people to blacks, it is very hard for the black to live comfortable in the white people's countries, which will never happen in any Africa countries because we always accommodate them.

There would have been equality in everything and the country would have been peaceful if not for the issue of slavery that happened in the past and most of our leaders are building on it today, we still undergo slavery in a modernized way just that no more chaining or maltreating like in the past.

I wish I had the opportunity, I would have stopped the issue of slavery in the past and allowed everyone to live in peace and harmony without regret or running away from their family, everyone would have enjoyed first-class treatment, no segregation, and inequality among us, life would have been the best for everyone.
