A School Course and an April Fool's Prank That Shook Me

Describe what you see:

As I picture the first day of April, what immediately comes to mind is the popular tradition of April Fool’s Day. It’s a day filled with jokes, pranks, and laughter, when people play tricks just to catch others off guard in a fun way.

Describe what you feel:

I feel the excitement and confusion that usually comes with April Fool's jokes. It’s that time when you’re not sure who to trust because anyone could be trying to prank you. But beyond the fun, I remember a personal experience that really got me. Something that happened back in school during the month of April.

Here’s my story:

Back in school, there was a strict academic policy: if you scored an E grade in any course, you were required to resit that course. That meant going back to take the class again, often with junior students, just to earn a better grade.
There was one course in particular that gave almost every student a hard time, MTH101. In my first year, I unfortunately failed it. So, the next session, I prepared myself to resit for it as required.

And guess what? I had gotten an E in the academic period where the grace just finished.

I couldn’t believe it. The timing was crazy. Just when I was prepared to go through the stress of resitting the course, it was no longer necessary. I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, It honestly shook me.

To cut the long story short, I eventually resat for the exam, and this time around, all my friends knew how eager I was to pass the course. On the day the results were released, they all came to me looking serious and said, “You failed the course again.”

Damn! I was furious. I knew how much effort I had put into studying. I was aiming for a B, but even if I didn’t get that, I was confident of at least a C. Failing again? That couldn’t be right. I knew I didn’t deserve a D, let alone an E or F.

After wrestling with my thoughts for a while, I finally found out, it was an April Fool’s prank.
About an hour later, they all burst out laughing and told me the truth: I actually got a D this time. I rushed to the departmental notice board, and truly, it was a D!
not because a D was great, but because it meant I wouldn’t have to resit the course again. It was just my friends trying to mess with me during the first week of April, when results were released.

They called me “April Fool”, and honestly, it still cracks me up whenever I remember that moment. It reminds me of how playful and unpredictable April can be!

Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day!

Your friends must have enjoyed seeing you furious. At least it ended positive. I hope from that moment on you know your friends good enough to recognise if they lie or speak the truth. 👍
