SPLINTERLANDS ART CONTEST 295 - Undead Minotaur Wood carved necklace FANART

Hello friends, I hope you are feeling very well, practicing wood carving again I have created a new figure, this time a pendant to participate in the Splinterlands 296 contest, this time using the Undead Minotaur card as inspiration, a creature zombie that looks very ferocious, I tried to make the skull with the horns in my practices with wood. I did it using only a razor, the same as last time. Here I briefly explain step by step how I did it, I hope you like it.

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, practicando de nuevo el tallado en madera he creado una nueva figura, esta vez un dije para participar en el concurso 296 de Splinterlands, en esta oportunidad utilizando como inspiración la carta de Undead Minotaur, una criatura zombie que luce muy feroz, yo traté e hacer la calavera con los cuernos en mis prácticas con madera. Lo hice utilizando solamente una navaja igual que la vez anterior. Aquí explico brevemente el paso a paso como lo hice, espero les guste.

PROCESS

I used a piece of cedar wood, from some scraps that I have from a frame, this wood is very soft to make carvings, as a figure I made a skull although the horns are not like those of a bull but rather like those of a ram, I liked it plus this design. I made the drawing with a pencil on one of the sides and from there I began to shape the figure with the knife.

Utilicé un trozo de madera de cedro, de unos que tengo de un marco, esta madera es muy suave para hacer tallados, como figura hice una calavera aunque los cuernos no son como los de un toro sino como los de un carnero, me gustó más este diseño. Hice el dibujo con lápiz por uno de los costados y a partir de aquí comencé a darle forma a la figura con la navaja.

Next, with the saw I made some cuts, I made these to reduce the work with the knife because otherwise it would have taken me a long time to carve, so with the saw I made these cuts and removed more parts of the wood that were not necessary.

Seguidamente con la segueta hice unos cortes, estos los hice para reducir el trabajo con la navaja porque sino me hubiera llevado muchísimo tiempo tallar, así que con la segueta hice estos cortes y retire más partes de la madera que no eran necesarios.

So I began little by little to shape the skull, first I started with the horns, I think it was the part that took the most work and dedication, because that curve had to be made. I left the head last since it required fewer movements with the knife to carve.

Así comencé poco a poco a darle forma a la calavera, en primer lugar comencé por los cuernos, creo que era la parte que llevaba más trabajo y dedicación, porque había que hacer esa curva. Dejé la cabeza para último lugar ya que precisaba de menos movimientos con la navaja para tallar.

With a slightly smaller knife I was able to give the desired curved shape to the horns. I confess that I felt very happy when as I was carving, everything turned out just as I was imagining it, it was a very gratifying feeling.

Con una nava un poco más pequeña pude darle la forma curva tan deseada a los cuernos, confieso que me sentí muy alegre cuando a medida que iba tallando, todo iba saliendo tal cual lo estaba imaginando, fue un sentimiento muy gratificante.

Once satisfied with the horns, I went directly to the skull, first I drew the respiratory cavity, I think that apart from the horns, this area gives a terrifying appearance to the skulls of these animals. After carving, I also drew the eye sockets, then to make those small holes I used a sharp screwdriver that I improvised to make those small holes.

Ya conforme con los cuernos, pasé directamente al cráneo, en primer lugar dibuje la cavidad de respiratoria, creo que a parte de los cuernos, esta zona le da un aspecto aterrador a las calaveras de estos animales. Luego de tallar, también dibujé la cuencas de los ojos, luego para hacer esos pequeños hoyos utilicé un destornillador afilado que improvisé para hacer esos pequeños huecos.

In the next step I began to sand the entire piece, here I spent quite a while sanding since I used two types of sandpaper, which helped me give it even more shape while I removed all the parts that did not fit. As you can see, with the sandpaper I was able to round the eye socket better.

En el siguiente paso comencé a lijar toda la pieza, aquí estuve bastante tiempo lijando ya que utilicé dos tipos de lijas, las cuales me ayudaron a darle aún más forma mientras quitaba todas las partes que no se ajustaban. Como pueden ver, con las lijas pude redondear mejor la cuenca de los ojos.

After sanding the piece very well and making it smooth, I left a space on the back to make a hole through which to pass the rope for the necklace. Next I applied a varnish bath to give it a better finish, but not before sanding the piece several times and giving it other varnish baths so that it would have a better finish.

Luego de lijar muy bien y dejar suave la pieza, en la parte trasera dejé un espació para hacer un agujero por donde pasar la cuerda para el collar. Seguidamente apliqué un baño de barniz para darle un mejor acabado, no sin antes lijar varias veces la pieza y darle otros baños de barniz para que quedara con un mejor acabado.

Finally, I added the cord to finish the necklace, I also added two pieces of decoration so that the necklace would be more striking and with a supernatural appearance. In this way the skull of Undead Minotaur was finished.

Para finalizar agregué el cordón para terminar el collar, agregué también dos piezas de adorno para que el collr quedara más llamativo y con apariencia sobrenatural. De esta manera quedo finalizado la calavera de Undead Minotaur.

FINAL WORK

What did you think of the result? I have found wood carving very interesting and recreational, while doing this work new ideas came to mind, such as making a full-body digura, although to achieve this I would need a larger piece of wood and more precise tools. Qué les ha parecido el resultado? he encontrado muy interesante y recreativo el tallar madera, mientras hacia este trabajo me venía a la mente nuevas ideas, como el de hacer una digura de cuerpo completo, aunque para lograrlo necesitaría una pieza de madera más grande y herramientas más precisas. Creo que lo tendré en cuenta para hacerlo en un futuro cercano, espero que les haya gustado mi aporte para el concurso, no olviden comentar que les ha parecido, me despido hasta pronto.
