Huge Grain Run Then Spreading, Harvests, Wasps, PDC, Hay Bale and Cage, Roof, Roots, Grilling - Saturday
I was up early yesterday morning but not as early as other times. It's the holiday weekend so I knew there wouldn't be a ton of traffic in town for my grain run so I was on the road by 6am.
I brought a half barrel with as I had 6 full size barrels of grain waiting and the trailer can comfortably handle 5 barrels. I dumped over the first barrel and shoveled into the half and slid it into the bed.
Then the 5 barrels all had to get loaded to the trailer.
It was a definite squeeze but I made it fit. I then headed for home in hopes of beating the coop door opening.
but I missed it by 2 minutes and the birds were all out. I had to stop and real quick throw shovels full of grain into the yard to distract them so I could back the truck and trailer up by the garden without them massing the trailer.
I got my post done and watched some of the darts before heading out to unload the grain. Wheelbarrow load after load I pushed across the garden then spread out over the garlic garden.
This is the 3rd coating and I think the final. I will need to till it all in really well and then I want to lay black plastic over the top until time to plant.
The rest of the grain got shoveled out to the sheep pen where the birds all piled in as well.
Finally late morning I got out to pick in the gardens.
Our grapes are getting ravaged by the wasps and I went out with the racquets and got myself 15+ wasp kills at once.
Some solid darts matches on with Littler smashing his opponent.
Afternoon was time for me to get the new bale rolled into the sheep.
but first I had to fix the hay cage that had fallen to pieces. Thankfully I just got a new box of deck screws so I fixed all 4 panels up and got them placed around the bale.
Then refilled all their waters except the barrel as it needs to be scrubbed.
The sheep and alpaca were very happy for the new bale.
I was telling J how it is always much harder to get doubles as I then threw 2 perfect double 20s and the third got deflected out... harder huh?
The garden shed roof is quite shitty and needs a lot of work. I pulled the plastic to expose the mess.
SO MANY NAILS!!!! This is going to be a serious pain in the ass to clean off. If I can I plan to lay down tar paper then tyvek over that then plastic over that. I need to get something on it that can last me a while until the metal roofing prices come back down.
Chokecherry is a serious root problem. The damn things put off new growth from the roots that spread out forever. These were over 12 feet from the tree they spawned from.
Got the fire going in the pit then grilled out burgers for dinner.
Today I have harvests to get to early, work on sheds, we are going to drain and clean the hot tub, mid day we are going to Elk Park for a get together with the boys' friends, PDC and Man UTd are on this morning, and hopefully rest my back some.
