The Anime Realm Contest #2: I recommend you to watch Slam Dunk [ENG || ESP]

We are still celebrating the holidays, one of my favorite times of the year, and The Anime Realm community is holding its second contest where they invite us to recommend an anime to watch this Christmas, one that is not conventional, one that we believe most people haven't seen yet. This time I bring you an anime series based on the manga written by Takehiko Inoue called Slam Dunk. I recommend this anime and the main reason is that I saw it a long time ago, when I was very small and now I have seen it again to give you an opinion according to my much more detailed and objective experience.

The truth is that I don't know if this anime was very much watched or not in its time, since its first broadcast was in 1993, that is to say that it has more than 30 years since this adaptation of Takehiko Inoue's work was first released. This is a true classic, it is an anime that I do not feel it is conventional, even I have never read a publication in the community, nor in the entire platform, but what I am sure is that it is quite good and worth watching, as we will have hours of entertainment.

Toei Animation was the studio in charge of the adaptation of this anime, which had a total of 101 chapters broadcasted, divided into two seasons. The first season was from chapter 1 to 52, while the second was from 53 to 101. Slam Dunk is an anime especially Shonen, although it can also be watched by women, the important thing is to like the story. The plot of this anime focuses on the practice of basketball, which is why it is in the Spokon genre, since its story is developed in a sport, as is the practice of basketball in schools in Japan. Of course, other sports are also mentioned in this production, but the main story is developed in the aforementioned sport.

How could I not like this anime, if you have ever read my blog, you will know that I am a sports lover. Now, the plot of this anime takes us to travel in the story of one of my favorite characters in sports and comedy anime, as is Hanamichi Sakuragi, a 15 year old boy, who overcame himself by practicing basketball, beyond that in the first instance he did it to conquer a girl (Haruko Akagi), but little by little he was grabbing love for the sport, practicing and playing with great tenacity. Simply put, we are going to see a story of self-improvement, a change for the better, beyond the difficulties that our protagonist will face along the way.

Estamos aún en celebración de las fechas decembrinas, una de mis épocas favoritas, y la comunidad The Anime Realm está realizando su segundo concurso donde nos invitan a recomendar un anime para verlos en estas navidades, uno que no sé convencional, que creamos que la mayoría aún no lo ve. En esta oportunidad les traigo una serie animada basada en el manga escrito por Takehiko Inoue con el nombre de Slam Dunk. Este anime se los recomiendo y la razón principal es que lo vi hace mucho tiempo, cuando era muy pequeño y ahora que lo he vuelto a ver para darles una opinión de acuerdo a mi experiencia mucho más detallada y objetiva.


La verdad es que no sé si este anime fue muy visto o no en su tiempo, ya que su primera emisión fue en 1993, es decir que tiene más de 30 años que salió por primera vez esta adaptación de la obra de Takehiko Inoue. Este es un verdadero clásico, es un anime que no es siento que sea convencional, incluso nunca he leído una publicación en la comunidad, ni en toda la plataforma, pero lo que sí estoy seguro es que es bastante bueno y que vale la pena verlo, ya que tendremos horas de entretenimiento.


Toei Animation fue el estudio encargado de la adaptación de este anime, que tuvo un total 101 capítulos emitidos, divididas en dos temporadas. La primera temporada fue del capítulo 1 hasta el 52, mientras que la segunda fue el 53 hasta el 101. Slam Dunk es un anime especialmente Shonen, aunque también puede ser visto por mujeres, lo importante es que guste la historia. La trama de este anime se enfoca en la práctica del baloncesto, razón por la cual está en el género de Spokon, ya que su historia está desarrollada en un deporte, como es la práctica del básquet en las escuelas de Japón. Claro, en esta producción también se mencionan otros deportes, pero la historia principal se desarrolla en el deporte ya mencionado.


Como no gustarme este anime, si alguna vez has leído mi blog, sabrás que soy amante del deporte. Ahora bien, la trama de este anime nos lleva a viajar en la historia de uno de mis personajes favoritos en los animes de deportes y comedia, como es Hanamichi Sakuragi, un chico de 15 años de edad, quien se superó al practicar baloncesto, más allá que en primera instancia lo hizo para conquistar a una chica (Haruko Akagi), pero poco a poco le fue agarrando amor al deporte, practicando y jugando con mucha tenacidad. Simplemente, vamos a ver una historia de superación personal, un cambio para bien, más allá de las dificultades a la que nuestra protagonista se enfrentará en el camino.

Hanamichi is a tall young man, who is almost 1.90 meters tall, only 15 years old as mentioned before, with a formidable physical condition that makes him stand out in any sport, but especially in basketball, which is a sport where there is a lot of contact. Sakuragi is a troublesome boy, who gets into many fights, but at the same time is quite funny, giving a touch of comedy to this anime. This young man can be a troublemaker, even his attitude is hopeless, as he is quite conceited and thinks he is the best. Yes, he is talented, but he is also quite clumsy, but also this way of being can serve as a lot of inspiration, hence he is one of my favorite characters of all time.

Kaede Rukawa is another main character of this anime, as he is a talented boy in college basketball in Japan, has a wonderful technique, almost perfect, plus his physical appearance and how good he is at basketball, attracts a lot of girls, being the opposite character to the protagonist. Rukawa is interested in playing basketball, it is the only interest he has in life, to be the best. Akagi, who is known in the anime as the gorilla for his physical appearance, is another of the central characters, he is the captain of the Shokoku team, considered one of the best players in his position in the anime, so he is quite respected. Slam has a good amount of characters, each one with a story behind that is worth knowing, so I invite you to watch the anime to learn more about the story.

In short, the story of Slam Dunk shows us the self-improvement not only of the protagonist, but also of the other characters, nothing is impossible and dreams can be fulfilled, the important thing is to fight for it. The story is not perfect, it may have its details, but in it we see not only the sports competition, the adrenaline in the basketball games, but also a lot of comedy, especially because of the way Hanamichi is. Something that caught my attention is that the plot also focuses on the world of gangs in schools, where fights are quite common among students, in this aspect this anime reminds me a lot of Baki, as the fights are constant.

Hanamichi es un joven alto, que mide casi 1.90 metros, con tan solo 15 años como ya se los había mencionado, con una condición física formidable que lo hace que destaque en cualquier deporte, pero sobre todo en el básquet, que es un deporte donde hay mucho contacto. Sakuragi es un chico problemático, quien se mete en muchas peleas, pero a la vez es bastante chistosa, dándole en toque de comedia a este anime. Este joven puede ser problemático, incluso su actitud es desesperante, ya que es bastante engreído y se cree el mejor. Sí, tiene talento, pero también es bastante torpe, pero también esta forma de ser puede servir de mucha inspiración, de allí que es unos de mis personajes favoritos de todos los tiempos.


Kaede Rukawa es otro los personajes principales de este anime, ya que es un chico talentoso en el baloncesto colegial de Japón, tiene una maravillosa técnica, casi que perfecta, además que por su apariencia física y por lo bueno que es en el baloncesto, atrae mucho a las chicas, siendo el personaje contrario al prota. Rukawa le interesa, es jugar básquet, es el único interés que tiene en la vida, ser el mejor. Akagi, quien es conocido en el anime como el gorilla por su apariencia física, es otro de los personajes centrales, es el capitán del equipo de Shokoku, considerado uno de los mejores jugadores en su posición en el anime, por lo cual es bastante respetado. Slam posee una buena cantidad de personajes, cada uno con una historia detrás que vale la pena conocer, así que los invito a ver el anime para conocer más de la historia.


En fin, la historia de Slam Dunk nos muestra la superación personal no solo del protagonista, sino que los demás personajes, nada es imposible y los sueños se pueden cumplir, lo importante es luchar por ello. La historia no es perfecta, puede que tenga su detalle, pero en ella vemos no solo la competencia deportiva, la adrenalina en los partidos de básquet, sino que también mucha comedia, sobre todo por la forma de ser de Hanamichi. Algo que me llamó la atención es que la trama se centra también en el mundo de las pandillas en las escuelas, donde las peleas son bastante comunes entre los estudiantes, en este aspecto este anime me hace recordar bastante a Baki, ya que las peleas son constante.

The animation of Slam Dunk can be considered good, taking into account the time of the anime, since previously it did not have the same technology that is currently used to adapt anime. Yes, it is not perfect, in several scenes of basketball games, the movements of the players look as if they were robots, nothing natural, but this is occasional, since many moments everything looks good. The anime has good visual effects. The design of the characters looks pretty good, only the leftovers of the characters are a little bit tasteless, but you have to understand that the anime is from 1996. Overall it is a good job in the visual section of Slam Dunk.

Last but not least we have the soundtrack, which is undoubtedly the best of the anime. The opening Kimi ga Suki da to Sakebitai is great, both in the original language, as well as the Spanish translation. One of the best music I have ever heard in the history of anime. This music was created by the rock band BAAD. This opening was from chapter 1 to 62, being the best of the whole anime. In Spanish this music was in charge of Adrian Barba, with the name Quiero gritar te amo, an impressive work, even I think it is better than the original. I find this theme quite similar to the Dragon Ball ones, that's why I like it a lot. The opening of the remaining chapters was Zettai ni Daremo by ZYYG, I also liked it, although not with the same level or emotion as the first episodes. The soundtrack of this anime is one of the highlights.

La animación de Slam Dunk se puede considerar buena, tomando en cuanta la época del anime, ya que anteriormente no se contaba con la misma tecnología que se usa actualmente para adaptar los animes. Sí, no es perfecto, en varias escenas de los partidos de baloncesto, los movimientos de los jugadores se ven como que se fuese unos robots, nada natural, pero esto es ocasional, ya que muchos momentos todo se ve bien. El anime cuenta con buenos efectos visuales. El diseño de los personajes se ven bastante bien, solo las sobras de los personajes son un poco tascas, pero hay que entender que el anime es del 1996. En general es un buen trabajo en el apartado visual de Slam Dunk.


Por último y menos importante tenemos la banda sonora, que sin lugar a dudas es lo mejor del anime. El opening Kimi ga Suki da to Sakebitai es genial, tanto en el idioma original, como la traducción al español. Una de las mejores músicas que he escuchado en la historia de los animes. Esta música fue creada por la banda de rock BAAD. Este opening estuvo desde el capítulo 1 hasta el 62, siendo el mejor de todo el anime. En Español esta música estuvo a cargo de Adrian Barba, con el nombre de Quiero gritar te amo, un trabajo impresionante, incluso pienso que es mejor que la original. Este tema le encuentro bastante parecido a los de Dragon Ball, de allí puede venir que me guste mucho. El opening de los capítulos restantes fue Zettai ni Daremo por ZYYG, me gustó también, aunque no con el mismo nivel ni emoción que la de los primeros episodios. La banda sonora de este anime de lo más destacado.
