Blossom in the backyard (PhotoFeed Contest Macro)
It’s been a while since I did any macro photography, but now that spring is in full swing, the trees are full of blossom again, and that blossom attracts insects.
A perfect reason to grab my macro lens and head into the backyard.
Here are some photos I took.
Although a lot of the trees are blossoming at the moment it was a tiny little flower that amazed me the most. It's not a plant I've planted myself, so it's actually weed. But how beautiful it is!
The flower itself is no more that 0,5 centimeter in diameter. The white leaves seem to have a metallic shine in them which you don't notice with the naked eye, but are visible through magnification. I also like it that the leaves are slightly imperfect.
This is my entry for the PhotoFeed Contest with the subject Macro for this week.
But there was more. There flowers are from my apple tree which has a lot of blossom at the moment. When I was in the backyard I unfortunately didn't spot any insects around it. I do see bees collecting nectar from the flower frequently, which is good for the pollination.
The petals of the flowers look really cool up close. I hope the bees will do their work and that we will have a nice harvest this year. Last year wasn't that good. But I thought I had read something about fruit trees that you get a big yield every two years. If that is true we will get more apples this year.
Another beautiful tree we have is a crabapple. It doesn't produce edible apples, but the blossom is really beautiful! The entire tree will turn into one big pink 'cloud' in a week or so.
Macro can make even the most simple flower turn into beauties. Just like this dandelion, which also is a weed. I'm always so amazed how they turn the leaves into seeds. A very cool transformation that often happens overnight.
And here is one of my friends; a ladybug. These fellas protect my fruit trees from being infested by aphids. Did you know that a ladybug can eat 50 to 100 aphids per day, depending on the species and size of the ladybug.

Great macro shots! 🌸 That tiny flower is a winner, just like a longshot at the races! 🐎 #PhotoFeed
Amazing shots! That ladybug at the end is so cute!!!
Thanks! They eat a lot of aphids, so I'm happy to have them visit my garden!
Ohh... so they're your cute little helpers. ^^
Really good warm shots. 🥰
Woow…beautiful photograph. I love the apple tree blossom and the crapple flowers. That dandelion is super appealing and the lady big too..
I liked all the photos, but that of the ladybird is spectacular. I think reading your post and seeing these images you have motivated me to participate, by my way to work there are beautiful flowers. Blessings
Macro does help us see the glory of the everyday ... the crabapples are amazing to see and reminds me that I know where a local tree is and I need to get to it to photograph it!
Wow!
You managed to capture some really good shots with beautiful subtlety!
Great!
Beautiful flowers, very tender @friendlymoose
Nice shots man! The leaves are really shining, they seem to herald the arrival of spring. Did you take these photos with your phone or a professional camera?
Thanks! I have taken them with my consumer camera, a Canon M50 mirrorless with a zoom lens and some macro rings.
