I'm a big fan of Westvleteren.
The beer was always very exclusive since you had to visit the abbey to buy it. You could find in in some liquor stores who illegally sold it, but the prices were bizarre; 11, 12 euro for one bottle.
I ordered 24 bottles of Westvleteren 12 two years ago via a colleague of mine whose mother lived in Belgium when they introduced the ordering.
in 2023 they started delivering to a certain number of liquor stores in The Netherlands to prevent the liquor stores to illegally sell their beer for insane high prices.
Last week in the beer shop in Valkenburg I noticed they also had the Westvleteren 8. It was still expensive (€5,50), but it's better than what it was.
Although I still like their beers (The quadruple and the blonde the most, but I'm not a big fan of doubles at all), I still think they are a bit hyped.
There is another really good beer which is brewed near the monastery of Westvleteren and uses the same ingredients. St. Bernardus cannot call itself a Trappist beer, but tastes really good, is much cheaper and is easier to get.
If you haven't already, you should try their beers once.
Enjoy your Westvleteren 12. That one really is my favourite!

Yeah, I know the St. Bernardus and like it. It is into the direction of the Trappists if it comes to taste.
Have a safe travel and hope to see you soon
