Tracking down Street Art in Sibiu (#1)
Hello everyone! I hope you are well!
It's been a while since I posted in this community but this thing is about to change starting with today's post which is only the first part of many that will keep my feed busy for a while.
A few of you might know that I discovered my passion for Street Art, Murals, Graffiti or whatever you call them, quite late in my age. But ever since, I tried my best to take advantage of this way of sharing art everywhere my travelling feet took me.
A way more accessible path to follow was that in the city where I'm currently living, which is in Sibiu, Romania. This one not only has quite a few Street Arts but it actually holds yearly a festival with this purpose and there have been tens of editions already so you might anticipate how many Street Arts are waiting for me to discover them.
While some were pretty easy to be spotted being placed on the main street, for example, I also met the opposite situation with very hidden ones where access was not allowed anymore.
There was a total number of 120 Street Arts in town but as you might expect not all of them survived with the passage of time, as well as having some buildings renovated that resulted in erasing these. But I still got my notebook filled with all the locations where I could find them and made my way towards these one by one for the last year in the company of my boyfriend, as there wasn't proper information available from the festival organizers about whether some of them are still existing or not.
We only took these long walks that always ended up between 15-25km in our free time, so that's why it took us a full year to get some answers regarding all of the Street Arts that still exist out there. So based on our experience, every once in a while I'll drop 5 pictures of those we discovered, also being a pleasure to take part in the Street Art contests that are held in this group. Today it's about CCC's Street Art Contest #204! ❤️
The story behind the first mural shot is about the recipe of a total, complete and perfect human being that mixes both females and males in a single body. The red silhouette represents the feminine part while the blue one stands for the masculine one, but having both warm and cold colours in a single piece of art sends the message of where we are placed in the universe since the androgynous is perceived as a symbol of the meeting of opposites, as a touch of perfection, as a closeness to the divine.
Name: The Androgynous (2017)
Artists: KERO & OCU
Location: Colegiul National Pedagogic Andrei Saguna (Sibiu, Romania)
Perhaps you spotted this already in the previous image, but this time the message is sent a bit clearer to the curious ones where the mural is a tribute to the first animal that made it to the space area, this one being a dog named Laika. Sadly, for copyright purposes, this was reinterpreted under the name of Lika, but it's still very easy to figure out the story behind the mural.
Name: Laika (2017)
Artists: The Orion
Location: Colegiul National Pedagogic Andrei Saguna (Sibiu, Romania)
A quite abstract Street Art is represented by a basic story that shares very well the process we all follow before having a drawing come to an end, with lots of painting, erases, repaints, corrections and so on. Such as we can speak about a silent fight on our way of improvement and bringing the image we have projected in our heads into real art to be observed by others while we have plenty of fun doing it. Can anyone relate?
Name: Playing (2017)
Artists: Kitra
Location: Colegiul National Pedagogic Andrei Saguna (Sibiu, Romania)
Another abstract drawing but a bit more suggestive illustrates what happens inside each of us during the stream of consciousness. While our mind can easily fly from one idea to another without a proper connection between the two, it always ends up with new ideas, information and unexpected associations. The mix of colours used shows that you can basically find the same idea over and over again, but approach it from new perspectives that make everything feel like new.
Name: Stream of Consciousness (2017)
Artists: Robert Roca
Location: Colegiul National Pedagogic Andrei Saguna (Sibiu, Romania)
Last but not least, we get to visually learn about gestalt psychology which represents an early sketch done before having a graffiti come to an end. As some of you might know, paintings in general don't start with concrete lines and silhouettes but with geometrical shapes, pixel art details, as well as lots of glitches that might only make sense in the head of the artist but which is also a very interesting process to observe before having the final results.
Name: Gestaltism (2017)
Artists: Lost.Optics
Location: Colegiul National Pedagogic Andrei Saguna (Sibiu, Romania)

Beautiful selection of StreetArt fron Sibiu. I too learned to appreciate StreetArt late in life, especially the lettering. And I'm lucky to live in Montreal, with so much to see. And thanks to Hive, even more to see, with murals from all over the world 😀 Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
Have a great day
Pleasure all mine! And thanks for the kind words. I totally feel you on the thoughts shared about getting to understand and appreciate this branch of art a bit too late :)
