Diminished impact

^ (1).JPG

It may not be common knowledge here, or anywhere for that matter because I keep information about myself fairly private, but here's the thing, I like to grow stuff.

I have a vegetable garden and fruit trees - I call it an orchard but it's probably smaller than what a true fruit tree orchard should be - and I grow flowers and other plants; it's something I've been into from a young age thanks to the influence of my parents and the fact I come from a small rural town in Australia where growing our own things was commonplace. I picked up something new a little while ago and have been growing them patiently waiting for them to flower...ok, not so fucken patiently if I'm truthful. Anyway, they flowered finally, sort of anyway, and there's still more to come.

These are Japanese Hydrangeas, the Ajisai, a very beautiful flower that comes in many colours but mine are pink; interestingly, the colour is closely linked to the levels of aluminum ions in the soil. It's said, the pink colours represent happiness, love, warmth and sincere feelings and considering I bought these for someone special in my life who also makes me feel those things I guess it all worked out perfectly.

I decided to take a few photos recently even though the blooms were not full-formed; I liked the contrast between the open flowers and the buds.

I know my photos are rather shite but that's ok, the flowers themselves are splendid and that's what matters to me, I'm not at all bothered by the diminished impact my photos have on them.

Have you ever grown flowers especially for someone special to you? There's something quite nice about tending to something, giving it attention and care, nurturing it, with the thought of making it as beautiful as possible for the person who will receive it and that's what I've done. Despite the diminished impact through my photos of these flowers they have had the desired effect on that special person I'd hoped they would and for me...well, I've also enjoyed tending them.

My mum has been growing flowers over years. She has both flowers potted at home and in the garden. Unfortunately, there is not much flower diversity. Wish there was the Japanese flower :)

I think it can bring a lot of enjoyment and I've always found it relaxing to spend time in the garden.

Is our dream to have a house with garden after getting old, isn't it? 🙂

I've had one since a young age so have enjoyed the benefit for a long time. I hope you manage it.

Wow the flowers looks very fresh and healthy. And pink color also suits on them too much.

Your photography is really very great. I really like it and the way you captured the beauty of drops, really amazing.

I've never been much of a flower tender. The Mother Thing likes a flower bed filled with various annuals and perennials, plus planter boxes and flower pots hither and yon. I occasionally buy her something new to grow, but that's the extent of my floral productivity.

I'm more interested in produce, edible or medicinal stuff I guess, but I have flowers also and I enjoy the time I spend with them as my girl loves them too and it's something we do together. Of course, we also do the vegetable garden together and there's something nice about eating food one has self-grown.

It's nice that you supply your mom with stuff now and then and can only imagine she'd be grateful.

Thanks for commenting.

You've mentioned your veg garden a few times in passing but I'm one of those Doubting Thomas types who'd have to see it to believe it. You seem to me more like Action Man than Percy Thrower!:)

There's loads of posts on my feed about it from a little while back, images and all. I don't post about it much because I feel I've done it to death, there's only so much one can say about a vegetable garden. Scroll back, you'll find multiple posts, or just take my word that they're there.

I had to go back 11 months to find one. Back then I thought you were one of those guys who had nothing in his head but trucks and guns, I rarely bothered reading your posts and I think I only followed you for the Weekend Engagement:) I know, I know, I'm wrong about a lot of things.

Yeah, I've done a lot of fiction stuff, loads of gardening, some stories from my youth, history, my travels around the world...all there, daily, going back to June 2017...I'm certainly not one dimensional. But...people often stereotype others. I guess the thing is one can go back and see my posts...and so very few are about trucks and guns.

Edit: It's also totally ok that you've not read my older stuff...I don't mind or judge.

Hi Galen, I'm not going to comment anything about flowers and pictures, I don't know why I'm doing this post if I know you're going to notice it right away. You have written a text full of emotion and love, which is what got to me.

You are very lucky, just read how you write about that special person, and surely that special person is too.

I say goodbye telling you that I also try to take care of my special people.

That was the message I guess, all the rest was just words. Some would not see that, clearly you have.

Hi Galen, sometimes it is hard to appreciate the things that are really important in our lives, it took me years.

Over here, now I just finished working until this afternoon. Hope your day is going well.

Greetings.

Those pictures are wonderful.... I already missed your flower pictures... I love the focus you give to them.... pink is my favourite colour and yes it represents what you said about all the love.

On the other hand the hydrangea is a beautiful flower, I used to have a winter variety... I grew the summer one but the weather wasn't ideal.

Yes, I have grown flowers for my grandmother, especially roses which she loved and enjoyed so much, I learned how to prune them properly from a professional, so that they would always be beautiful. It feels great to do special things for the people you love.

I think the giver gets as much from giving as the receiver gets from receiving; that's my experience at least.

Yes, when I give I am immensely happy, even though life is always a boomerang.

Your hydrangeas are gorgeous and I'm betting that your someone special thinks so too! The beauty of the full bloom and the promise of the budding beauty to come - perfection!

I'm pretty happy with them and yet they will look even better when they're fully out in bloom. They put a smile on my face but that special someone...she makes my heart sing. It's a nice combinti think.

Yes, a perfect combination..don't let either one go and together, both will keep that smile on your face!

I like to grow stuff too, but I usually end up killing stuff. I am a pretty horrible gardener. I just don't have the attention to detail and patience for it. It also doesn't help that we are gone most weekends in the summer camping. I should get my sprinkler system working at some point, that might help! Nice shots! It looks like you definitely have more of a green thumb than me.

I'm away quite a bit as well so it's a challenge but I work around it and find ways to keep things going; I don't have gigged up some drip systems here and there and that seems to work fine and AI also have some help. It tends to work out.

That's cool. We have a sprinkler system here, but I have never turned it on in the ten years we have lived here. I would probably need to get it inspected first.
