🕺 Welcome to the Scholar and Scribe Invitational 🕺

The Invitational is our bi-weekly, super-duper, writing contest. It is where we match quills and draw blood all for the sake of the craft. We all know a 'friendly' competition never hurts anyone, much, especially when it can be used as a platform to improve your writing. 🙌

🥳 Last Invitational Winners 🥳

🥇 Gold: 50 SCHOLAR, 3 SCRIBE, 2 HSBI, 300 Ecency points
@alonicus - The Secret of Doktor Von Falken

He pulled the trigged and one of the unsuspecting jaegers fell. With a smooth motion, Randall moved the bolt back and forth, and his second shot dropped the other guard as he was frantically looking to see where the shot had come from.

🥈 Silver: 40 SCHOLAR, 2 SCRIBE, 1 HSBI, 200 Ecency points
@gracepro - Sandman

October 1st I was given the Sandman case. He was a serial killer, named for the sand he put around a victim’s body. The way he killed was absolutely disgusting, eyes torn out, limbs ripped off, the only way we knew it was all him was the sand. Captain Angeles had given me a partner for this case.

🥉 Bronze: 30 SCHOLAR, 1 SCRIBE, 100 Ecency points
@justclickindiva - From Out Of Nowhere

The pressure to find the perfect outfit didn't explode overnight. For months, family and friends hounded Frieda to at least begin the search. Avoiding constant reminders and requests for progress pushed her further into despair. The solution was simple enough. The underlying obstacle; not so much, coupled with the peculiar actions of her finance, Jopher.

🎖️ Runner Up: 50 Ecency points
@loveth97 - Second encounter

Ellen walked briskly, the cold night air making her breath foggy. The tiny hairs at the back of her neck pricked up, and she felt goosebumps all over her body. She increased her pace, but for weeks she couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. Turning around hastily in an attempt to catch whoever it was,Ellen discovered there was no one behind her.

🤺 Genre Prompt 🤺

The story you submit MUST adhere to the following prompts:

🎥 Genre: Romance

The sun is shining and the heat is heating (yup!) when the red blood boils and the heart aches who is truly the victor? A question for the philosophers. As for this prompt, however, you choose to express the prompt is up to you. Romance can be expressed in so many ways, that who is to say which is the correct one? I look forward to reading your amazing interpretations of the meaning of the word.

May the odds - and your creative energy - be ever in your favor!

We'd like to give out a big shout-out and thank you to Ecency for sponsoring this contest! 🤗

A big thank you to @melinda010100 as well for the seamless communication.

Thank you ! Writing a thriller was fun. A romance is going to be seriously challenging for me. I'm absolutely rubbish at it ! I think in the last five years I've written one plotline that discreetly danced around the topic as an ingredient in a broader storyline, and don't know if I did a very good job of it. Oh well, it can't hurt to have a stab at it.....

Well, I wrote a thing. I hope it's a romance, but since I've never written one before, it might by a mystery tale. You tell me ! Hopefully it's enjoyable and not too much a of a trope.....

Keeping it under 1500 words was tough, once I got going the story just told itself - but somehow I managed it (just !) and came in at 1460 words.
