MY FIRST WORKING EXPERIENCE

20230823_233817_0000.png

I was young, jovial and smart but then I was worried of getting paid for a job that I might not do well. I just prefer doing something well and then if you feel like rewarding me for it then it's fine. Back then, I was still in senior secondary school and I was a little girl that loves helping out in anyway I could and then an offer came from a friend who told me of a job offer. At first I wasn't sure if I should accept the offer but then it was quite pressing so I accepted. I was employed by a lady, she gave me a job of a money collector because she and her family were moving out of town and she didn't want to lose her customers.

At first I was told that all I needed to do was to collect the money from her customers and then pay the money into the bank at the beginning of every working day. Well, to me that was quite easy so I accepted the offer but then as time went by, my employer informed me that I had to double my work, now she needed me to get more clients to join her cooperative and she needed me to do the job else she won't pay me what she normally pays. So at first I tried my best to tell more persons about the cooperative and few people were interested and they patronized me and that made her pay me as usual.

It was time to for most everyone to get their money back and I made sure everyone got theirs without any excuses or problems. In fact my employer gave out some promo to some of her consistent clients and that made everyone happy and they even wished to continue with us but unfortunately, we had to stop because like I mentioned earlier, I was still a student back then and it was not possible to give someone else that job as it concerns money and not just personal money but from different people.

I was paid about $10 monthly and at that time the pay was fair and as a little girl receiving such money for just doing a few things, I felt it was so much. I remember when I first received my pay, I was so happy and I got more energy to doing even better at it even though that was my first experience of that job. I did learnt a lot of things from that experience.

Lessons learnt from being a money collector

  • I learned how to be prudent with money and that also helped me become a youth treasurer in my congregation back at home. At that age, I learned how to keep money safe and keep record of it and always make sure to make it available when the time comes.

  • I learned the importance of putting in effort in whatever I feel I can't do. Most times one can be quick to say they can't do something because they haven't tried it. If I hadn't given it a try and just say I could not do it, then I won't have known I could keep money that well.

  • And finally, I learned that it is good to be trustworthy . If I wasn't trust worthy, I'm sure my employer wouldn't have given me such a job because she was not even going to be around to watch me carry out my job even when she knew I haven't done it before.

I'm happy to have worked as a money collector but of course I did had some days when it felt really hard and I wanted to keep up but I'm glad I didn't. At least I got to learn a lot from the experience even though it did not last for a long time.

Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you get to learn a thing or two from this content, until next time, stay AWESOME and JIGGY!!!

Earning 10 dollar as an high school student was huge, you were a big woman then. 🥰 It's not easy to gain people's trust but trust me, when you do, it will bring a lot of opportunities around your way. I am so happy that you didn't disappoint the woman after she gave you the work but rather proved yourself worthy.

It's nice to see you around mom.. I missed you o🥺

Getting such an amount of money monthly will look so big in the eyes of a young person. That is how it is until one starts to grow and realizes that it is just like a tip and cannot be enough to sustain one. Well, what do you want to do with money then when you are depending on your parents but it feels good earning something from what you do. Those were beautiful lessons you learned about money and putting in effort in whatever you do.

Yeah, I was a good saver then, I think I ended up giving some part of the money to my mom and used the rest for personal needs, hehe.

Thank you so much for your comment 🤗

Nice write-up sis, could not forget my first day at work. I was employed because the unit needed someone very good at calculation, and immediately I stepped into the unit, everybody was busy looking at me, I was not comfortable but I said to myself You can do this bro, That day wasn't funny at all.

Thanks for sharing this
