Solitude, A Pit Stop for the Soul

(Edited)

With the hubby and the boys away, Yongi and I spent most of yesterday quietly — literally. We stayed indoors, windows and doors shut (only the curtains in the bedroom and in the dining room were pulled apart to let the natural light in). It was cold, eh?

So did we sleep all day?

Oh no. Well, my Yongi took his naps. He seemed to have felt my need for solitude and remained calm and quiet. He only became active around late afternoon, chasing his new interactive ball, gnawing socks and such. This was him at past 10 am, enjoying a comfy, peaceful snooze.

Me?

A bit of Hiving, reading, listening to some tunes, then more of silent contemplation, exploring the depths of the soul and rekindling the delights of my heart. It was a good meditative exercise. There were moments when my mind kept wandering and wouldn't stay still, so breathe in... breathe out...

I would love to do that more often, as solitude, according to Robin Sharma, is a pit stop for the soul, and it truly is! It's a necessary break from the hustle and bustle of our surroundings and everyday living. Spending time in silence, reflecting on life, being immensely grateful for all there is and what is forthcoming, reconnecting with oneself, and listening more closely to our thoughts and feelings, most of which had long been neglected. I think of it as a form of emotional healing.

Anyway, just before mid-day, I started to read a newly-discovered book Who Will Cry When You Die when I heard the peddler's bell. The thought of Tinudok (fried ground glutinous rice balls with sugar syrup on skewers) got me excited because I had been craving it since the weekend and the time to satisfy my sweet tooth came. Hesitance arose (because it would be my first time to buy from a hawker here in DD) but it was either then or in a few days for she sells twice a week.

I ran outside and luckily, the vendor was crossing the street right in front of our driveway so I called on her. She was so amiable that I bought not only Tinudok but also Palitaw and two cold delights — Coconut and Pinipig popsicles (not photographed as I kept them right away in the freezer).

Aha! I finally caught food shadows that CoolMidwestGuy teased about last time, lol!

But yes, we had an awesome Tuesday, and today (Wednesday) shouldn't be any different. I intend to make it even better!

Ah haha I didn't expect that you would have added it to your shadow to do list 😂 Glad you had a great day and you brightened mine a bit as well :-)

Yes, very much so. The food, well, that's becoming my signature, !LOL

The book title sounds morbid but it's not like that. Will probably write about my thoughts on it when I finish.

Tinudok? First time hearing about it. It's also good to spend some time reflect on life as it fosters gratitude and helps the mind heal.

Hehe, yes. It's a local term for the sweet food on skewers.

reflect on life as it fosters gratitude and helps the mind heal.

You said it perfectly, Amie. Time spent in solitude not only makes us silence our minds but also allows us to feel more gratitude.

Everyone has different needs, someone feels good without a partner, someone without kids, someone like you with moments alone... I don't like to be alone, I find it depressing 🤣

Interesting the vendor on the street, nothing like that here

A side note, things with hivewatchers have been settled down, it's all fine now

Sounds like you love to be around people, that's good too :)

People are getting resourceful to make a living, peddling homecooked food.

things with hivewatchers have been settled down, it's all fine now

Awesome! Congrats and stay out of their radar from here on, lol!

When it's colder, more time is spent indoors, and the sky is much more beautiful at this time.

That is true. Also a good time to be out and enjoy more what we have around.
