April butterfly | PhotoFeed Contest - Macro Photography Round 74
Hello, friends.
Walking in the forest with the dog on Sunday, I met the first April butterflies.
After winter, birch trees began to move sap, and it appears on the trunk in places where there are cracks in the bark. This is used by various insects, including butterflies.
The first flowers have already bloomed in the forest, but apparently birch sap, rich in sugars and vitamins, attracts butterflies more than flowers, since all the butterflies I met were on birch trees.
The photo shows the butterfly “Black-and-red polyflower”, international scientific name “Nymphalis xanthomelas”.
