QC Community Contest #133: Failure

Greetings everyone and welcome to my blog. I hope this meets you in peace, joy, love and kindness.

Before I delve into the question proper I would like to give my view of what I think failure is. Failure is the inability to achieve a desired goal or attain success either by one's standard, family's, friend’s or society's.

What do you think is easier, failing privately or publicly, and why?

One of the codes of a highly effective individual by Stephen Covey is “praise publicly and correct privately”. If there's anything to be done publicly I think it should be that which motivates, inspires and encourages. Failing privately is easier. Reason being that one will have to bear one's burnt or count one's loses alone and move on without any embarrassment from people who may mock, criticize or blame one for it.

Have you ever stopped trying something out of fear or failure?

Some years ago I enrolled in a professional examination which requires a lot of money and time after my first degree. I had a menial job then which barely gave me the required time necessary for effective studying and I had four courses to sit for at the first level. I passed 2 out of 4 courses ( I must pass all 4), I tried again next season but didn't succeed. I asked for a study leave but was denied. So I stopped the enrollment of subsequent seasons for fear of wasting my limited resources since I didn't have the time it required. My answer is yes, I have stopped trying something out of fear.

Have you ever stopped trying something because people around you would find out if you failed?

We learn everyday. My story above was due to lack of proper knowledge. I shouldn't have stopped if I knew then what I know now, though no regrets because I'm fully into what I find joy and passion in. My answer is No, I have not stopped trying something because people around me would find out if I failed. I don't even care whether people say anything or not because it's my vision, it's my dream not theirs and I know my “why” so they're not expected to understand it but me.

What do you think would help someone overcome their fear of failure?

When one is intentional about what one wants one will look beyond fear of failing. Fear of failing comes with skepticism and pessimism. To overcome such fear I think one should have one's “Why” spelt out. Knowing one's why will give the clear picture to go all in and face the fear. After all, a popular saying has it that fear is an acronym for “False Evidence Appearing Real”. To overcome the fear of failing, face it, go all in and do that which scares you the fear will vanish.

Conclusion

To succeed one has to kill the fear of not trying. The confidence to continue grows when one attempts more after failing the first time if the hunger to succeed is more than the fear of failing. Success will only be a mirage if the desire to try is clouded with fear.

Thanks for reading, engaging and upvoting. I really do appreciate it. Have the most of your day.🙏🤗💚✨

This was so good, I haven't heard it before.

Success will only be a mirage if the desire to try is clouded with fear.

Such a good metaphor. Fear literally makes us believe it's impossible to get what we want.
